So Tre basically just said fuck this bullshit

  2. maz2305

He found a way to part ways with Sutter afterall. Didn’t even need the owners blessing. And I applaud him for that.

  3. iggyisgoat

Treliving clearly wanted Sutter out. Ownership said no so Tre said okay see ya later

Tre could’ve just been over it in general, Maloney said he doubts Tre is a gm again anytime soon. Also he’s the son of a billionaire so it’s not like he really needs to do something. Not saying that a lack of organizational control wasn’t a factor in him leaving too though.

I wonder if that’s why a lot of the players were non committal on extensions and said we will see what happens this summer.

    It’s starting to make sense.

Tre and Sutter were butting heads. I’m guessing this meant that if one stayed, the other left

As I said on another thread, I don’t think this is as much about Sutter as it is about his relationship with ownership.

I don’t hate Sutter as a coach, I think he is perfectly suited for a rebuilding or expansion team. Build a team that is full of responsible, 2-way, middle six forwards with some size or grit and I think he can make them competitive. He isn’t even that bad for a skilled team as long as they’re winning, but I think he will quickly lose the room when offensively talented players are told the team’s best chances come from banging in rebounds instead of a skilled play to dangerous areas of the ice.

I think it is fairly obvious that Sutter was not Treliving’s choice, and we don’t know how many other choices were mandated by ownership. I’m 50/50 on whether Treliving thought Kadri should be signed at that cap hit, but I’m also unsure of the depth signings and trades done over the last 12 months. If his hand is constantly being forced to make decisions he feels are mistakes, I could see why he thought it is better to walk away. In a year or two another team will be looking for a GM, and with his track record Treliving will likely stand a good chance of getting that position.

To me it is becoming increasingly more obvious that Sutter wasn’t his choice, ownership wouldn’t let him make the change, so he walked. Can’t say I blame him. Who knows what other decisions ownership forced him to make. If I was hired to do a job and my bosses wouldn’t let me do it properly, I’d leave too.

I hope Tre walking forces ownership to re-evaluate things and look in a mirror, but I highly doubt it. We could be in for a rough one.

I’m not saying the theory is invalid, but Brad worked incredibly hard over the past 9 months and it may simply be a case of burnout that requires a couple months’ holiday, like they’re alluding to.

I’m done boys. I love you all and had fun with this team through my life, but I can’t keep spending every season watching mediocre trash.

I’m done being a Flames fan. Good luck to them.

  11. roscomikotrain

I bet he wanted to fire Sutter but didn’t have ownerships backing

  12. masterbao

My theory is ownership didn’t approve of Johnny and chucky extensions’ numbers based on pedigree at the time when they didn’t “prove it” yet but had the potential

When the owner hires the coach, rather than the GM…………….

  14. Suspicious_Pie_8716

They all liked Brad. They all don’t like Darryl.

  15. MissionIncredible

    Found out Wednesday?

Yep. He got a job offer elsewhere. 100%

  16. themill94

Fine. I’ll do it. I will buy the team. Just gonna need to borrow a billy.

  17. Theboofgoof

Honestly the worse news of the day for me is that the Flames actually wanted him back

  18. RangerGripp

If you listen to the presser Maloney says that he is going on a break and there were personal matters. The guy burned out, or close to it.
