  1. I know DK you don’t think that a rebuild is necessary, but due to the fact that they don’t have a form system it is going to be very difficult for them to compete for another Stanley Cup, barring a miracle of college free agents and luck on some late round draft picks. I wish that they wouldn’t have thrown caution to the wind with all their draft picks and would’ve drafted and just let the young guys come up and prove themselves as bottom 6 forwards rather than throwing away, second round picks, and other draft picks on retreads

  2. I usually stay up and watch one period or so. Last night I switched between the Boston series and the Carolina series. Lots of speed, physicality and goaltenders that actually contend. I can’t imagine the amount of odd man breaks that would occur if the pens were playing. Pens need two new goalies and a bottom six with speed and toughness along with a replacement or two in the defense core (petry dumoulin)

  3. DK, do you remember Bobby Farnham? he came up with Rust back in the day from wilkes, i always loved that energy he brought.

  4. Max Talbot, Colby Armstrong, Tyler Kennedy are the types of players the Pens need. Watching them since the Rangers traded Alexei Kovalev for Peter Nedved, and the past 4-5 seasons were painful to watch. Sullivan might be a terrific coach, but the big 3 stopped believing his message. Sully refuses to match lines (wastes home ice), he refuses to make in game adjustments as needed, and stubbornly keeps the same game plan despite every team knowing how to defend and exploit that system.

Here’s hoping the boys are watching the Oilers and remembering what it is like to play hockey and have fun.

  5. Unless FSG cherry picks Lou Lamoriello from NY, I don't see many GM's coming into this situation with the "stones" to impose their will against ownerships stubborn golden child: Sullivan. But hey, here's an idea, how about the new GM fire Sullivan, and then hire a coach that will be in more line with their roster strategy? Seriously, people have to get over this attachment to Sullivan. If anything at this point, he is an obstacle to getting where they need to be again.

  6. I was rooting against them. I did not want them in the playoffs this season it would’ve been pointless. It’s better for the team that they missed.

  7. Honestly, I didn't watch it other than highlights. This is why I wasn't as disappointed as I should have been about their absence. I just stand in my closet and stare at my McCann jersey and think about what could have been. Let's hope whoever comes in does something positive.

  8. IMO you're gonna need someone who's very analytics driven to make those kinds of gut wrenching decisions.

  9. I've actually had the opposite thought. Looking at the east, the Penguins could have easily been in a series with Carolina, and possibly Boston. Florida is vastly superior to the Penguins though.

  10. we know the Pens would not have advanced, but we wanted the streak to continue.
Then again, I truly hope the Bruins get smoked by the Panthers. Overrated team

  11. Pens would have got murdered if they would made the playoffs. Every first round has been fast and rugged. This Pens team was too soft and with drama Queen Jarry in net, they would have been embarrrased and dismissed immediatley in the first round by any of the teams that qualified.

  12. Watched some last night. Panthers won. Pens would’ve found a way to blow a lead in the third lol

  13. THANK YOU for the Brian Gibbons comment!
No one wants to talk about the elephant in the room… of Sullivan not giving young guys a proper chance.

This is how he won back to back cups and received a couple year extension.

Still riding those curtails to that success.

Sully has the formula to be successful… give young guys a legitimate shot shot.

Try to infuse guys who have a bigger potential ceiling than Sully's now beloved, veteran bottom 6 guy… your Heinen type player.. who you know exactly what you're going to get.

And you know exactly his lack of ceiling. Lack of potential. Lack of skill.

Instead, you can give a young gut a legit shot, and maybe… just maybe. He ouplays his ELC contract.

Infusing youth will naturally infuse the lineup with that energy and hunger you're talking about.

What happened to the Scott Wilson's, Tom Kuhnhackl's, the Conor Sheary (of those years). The Carter Rowneys, who helped push the needle to win those key games of a series.

I'm sick and tired of this Sully mantra of players having to be able to play both ways to get a shot…

No player can ever develop that while getting a shot in Sully's system.

We will continue to see your Sprongs, Sunqvuists, Lafferty, and now Nylander and Ty Smiths moving forward on other teams to make a legit impact..
