Dean Evason on goalie decision to switch to Fleury: “It’s what we do. We’ve done it all year.” Said this game wasn’t on Fleury. Plans to stick with goalie plan, evaluate each game. #mnwild.

Evason never said this part, this is Joe’s interpretation.
This is why he’s never won a playoff series. The playoffs are a different animal from the regular season.
Funny because they rotated goalies last year in the regular season and yet decided to start Fleury until the series was basically over even though he had worse numbers, I just don’t understand the leeway he gets.
Yep and all year it’s been, which Wild team will show up tonight? This Jekyll and Hyde shit is old.
I’ll take reasons why Dean Evason has never won a playoff series for 500, Alex
Everyone is always talking about how MAF is such a nice person. But no one here realizes that this is the same guy who is blackmailing our coach and has his family on ransom to keep him in the rotation.
The game was obviously not all on him, but I still think it’s a dumb decision, unless Gus was really THAT banged up.
And the take of “well we got one in Dallas and you gotta be happy with a split” is such bullshit. You play the game to WIN, but no we’d rather be tied 1-1 than up 2 coming home? What a dumbass take.
If Gus plays lights out again in game 3 and we win and then we still go back to Flower for 4 I will be livid.
Even if I don’t agree with it, I understand why they started Flower for game 2. But if Gus shows up and puts on another stellar performance for game 3 you HAVE to keep rolling with him
And this mentality is why we lost last year. There is 0 deviation from the set plan. No adaptability. This will cost us the series and our last chance to make it past the first round for a few years
That’s not a reason.
u/_BeerAndCheese_ I’m curious what your take is on this. Not @ing to be snarky or anything but enjoyed our discourse on it previously. Imho, this was a significant roster blunder. Especially painful is to read the reasoning about “this is how we’ve always done it”.
If the roles were reversed and Fleury had the game 1 that Gus did he would have started again last night IMO. I just think they feel like they owe Fleury something because of Guerins connection to him.
The reality is that Fleury has been falling off for a few years now and he’s not a playoff caliber goalie. I realize Gus was probably tired after game 1 but there was a day off in between and Dallas started Oettinger again.
Jesus. This isn’t what I want to hear. Hopefully this is just to try and fuck with the opposition but I doubt it.
CLM
Feels like everyone is hyper focused on Fleury when our PP/PK has been straight dog ass and we’re giving up odd man rushes cause we’re trying make hero plays at the blue line during zone entry.
Gus would have got run over with level of play in front of him. Doesn’t help that we were down two centers. But fuck guys. I don’t know how you watch that game and say fuckin’ goalies fault.
If that’s deans thought process, then he needs to be fired if we lose the series. Gus has played better all year
And where was this logic last year Dean?
I guess it’s a better answer than « It was an easy decision ».
Holy fuck just fire Dean this dude has no clue how to coach in the playoffs
Dean just continues to prove he’s not a playoff caliber coach
I think evaluating after each game is fine but don’t be dead set on rotating goalies. If gus plays extremely well consider starting him the next game if it isn’t already your plan. It seems as if dean is dead set on Fleury and gus rotating and not really actually considering the idea that maybe gus should start most of the games. Now I understand gus played almost a full 2 games Monday night and that’s a different case and an argument could’ve been made for either goalie to start after that
I think it made sense to give Gus a rest after 51 saves in 4+ periods. Game 2 was the game where we had the least chance of winning to begin with, so we didn’t have much to lose giving Flower a go. We’ll hopefully get healthy soon and the home ice has been good all year. If Gus picks up where he left off, we are in great shape.
