Absolutely beautiful arena. Before Friday and today I had been here for an Eric Church concert and a St. John’s basketball game so that wasn’t my first time here, but these were my first islanders games. Love the arena, hated that I had to walk like a mile just to get to the LIRR station/parking.
For not being MSG, there was quite a celebrity presence which was pretty cool. Chloe Grace Moretz was there.
As a few others have mentioned, there was a mass exodus after the 5th goal. Definitely sad that the fans would leave early on the game that is likely (hopefully!) their last home game of the season. Having been to games for all 3 NY area teams (against the canes) islanders fans are definitely the friendliest. That being said I still got heckled/booed as I made my way to my seat and heard some interesting ones like “oUr SeBaStIen aHo Is bEtTeR!” The most memorable thing from today was some angry islander fan throwing a beer can at my car as I waited patiently to get on the Cross-Island Parkway and head back up north to the Hudson Valley where I have called home for the last 5 years and (both thankfully but also sadly) will be moving away from this May. Was talking through the car window with a nice isles fan and he stood up for me to the guy that did it when that happened so they’re not all bad. Was a fun experience. Love UBS Arena and I’ll miss NY when I move next month, but as always, Go Canes.
