I Am Not At All Panicked. Not At All
* We were clearly tired physically and mentally and emotionally and we weren’t ready for this series. It’d be one thing if we played our game and still lost with that score, but we didn’t, so once we get to our game, its on like Donkey Kong.
* Also, if this is the Canes game, credit where credit is due, but I still think our offense and our game stumps theirs. We were abysmal in the first period and they were only able to score two goals on us, so I’m not worried quite yet. I’m not trying to dump on the Canes game, but they looked beatable this entire game. I’m also not trying to be cocky.
* However, we do need our top men to step the fuck up. Dougie, Nico, Jack, Bratters, Mercer, and Timo (when he gets back). Love the secondary scoring, love the unlikely goals, but we also need the likely goals. We need a full team effort, and that includes our stars.
* I give up on this PP. And we’re one hundred percent not going to get any better at it against this Canes PK. There’s no way. Sorry.
* I think you put Akira back in net on Friday.
* Honestly, I was expecting to lose tonight just because of all of the factors, Canes rested, us coming off such a massive high, zero rest, all of it.

* Plus, even though we kicked fucking ass in the first round, we still didn’t play as well as I think we could have played throughout (minus game five and game seven). Now you’re facing a goaltender who isn’t a Vezina Trophy man. Lets show the NHL and all of our doubters what a Devils offense can do.

Second thought before I go to bed; I feel this could’ve been a good 11-7 game to run a similar setup just without Timo and give Luke a game to make up for his offense. If Timo isn’t back Friday this would be interesting to see.

Fam – it’s OK, we got this. How did the last 5-1 game opener work out for us over 7 games? Scratch this one up to figuring out the new enemy, and let’s adapt and overcome.
We have a young team, and these are big ticket games. We looked like deer in the headlights in the first period, but took it to them in the 2nd. Pushing to make things happen in the 3rd and we get blown out. I felt bad for Akira, as he really did not have much of a look-in there.
Hoping we get Timo back soon, and he tips the balance back for us. Let’s do this!

the game was closer than the score, at least after the first period. I know its another 5-1 loss in game 1 but they had way more fight in this one than they did in game 1 vs the Rangers. My prediction was Devils in 6, and I know this sounds obvious but it bears repeating, you have to lose 2 to get to game 6. Take a breath everyone.
Between the short rest and losing Timo, we were always going to be unable to play our typical game tonight. What I didn’t see was a game plan that accounted for that and tried to do something different to compensate.
If Timo is still out on Friday, I want to see them go 11-7, dress Luke Hughes, and have him provide a new look on the Power Play and in sheltered minutes 5v5.
A frustrating game to watch but that’s how it goes. I have faith in this team. Looked like it was a combination of them being tired and trying to figure out Carolina. Friday will be telling, hopefully they can bring it back to The Rock with a win in hand.

What’s with the people saying they were tired? We didn’t look tired at all. We’re the youngest team in the playoffs & in the league. Energy was the least of our problems. Time once again to make adjustments for our new foe. They’re still young and they’re still on that learning curve playing against a very experienced, but totally different type of team.

I like the fact that we either win games that are closely played or dominate from the drop of the puck or we get absolutely pummeled. It’s kinda funny. The calls sucked today. Refs need to stop killing our vibe.

Playing from behind every series is not ideal. Was not able to watch the game. All 3 losses last series I watch. I will be watching gane 2 just incase.
