I haven’t watched the Oilers much this year, but dang, if they don’t have McDavid bringing the puck in successfully, and Draisaitl scoring off the left post they really don’t have much it seems.
Leon did the same thing in the regular season (I can't remember who it was against) but he scored 3 or 4 goals and was on the losing side. Must be frustrating.
This was a loss based on a series of events for Edmonton. 1. Defense, is the number one issue here. I can’t understand why bc they have such great depth and diversity in aged players but this one hits the loss tonight. Here’s why below ]
* Nurse, isn’t covering his man. He’s 4 feet in front not behind the forward. Because of this, direct deflections on 3 goals were allowed to happen. * Nurse & others, are blocking the goalies view of the puck. A NHL goalie can really track a puck well, until their own player blocks the view and makes their body twist or pivot right before the shot hits the pads.. this occurred on 2 of those 3 Deflection goalies
Offense is not 2-way players. * Mcdavid, plays a lot like Ovechkin. While you are know Ovi hits guys, maybe you don’t pay attention that he rarely back-checks. These opportunities where it’s a 3 on 1 or 2 on 1 is bc Mcdavid doesn’t back-check. He glides around the ice conserving his energy until it’s hit to touch the puck and accelerate fast.
* Leon, doesn’t play 2 way hockey either. So what happens in those events, is you need speed on defense and skill. You lack the speed, you have the skill.
The entire 3rd period was just turnover after turnover and no one was staying back covering their posts or points.
This, is why Edmonton lost, and why they still lost after one forward scored 4 goals.
Been saying for years how goalies need to stand up, as they never used to give up goals off earholes, etc. 10 goals? 🤔 In ALL team sports … DEFENSE travels, move your damn feet! Spoilers got swept in WCF last year. Either team would catch hell with Cats, Canes or even Demons by their aggressive forechecking, imo.
