i give Vitek the start game 2, if it doesnt work out at least Schmid gets a rest and then brick wall it rest of series
Wish the NHL highlights didn't just stop buffering all the time. Canes Vegas final.
Devils never got off the bus from Jersey until the second period and the game was already over by then.
Clear and obvious case of a rested team on home ice vs a gassed out team who travelled with no rest.
Simple as that.
Game was a throw a way game for NJ.
Game 2 will be more of an accurate barometer of how the series will play out.
Gotta hand it to Roddy B though, he always has his team ready to play.

Devils had just won the Cup against the Rangers in an epic 7 game series. Anything after that is just exhiibition games
Carolina fan here who is also a half glass empty guy. I thought the Devils had a lot better chances after Bastian scored their goal to make it 3-1. Andersen and more so the defensemen made some great saves and clears in the next 5 minutes after that goal. Think the game is different if NJ could’ve got that 2nd one and made it 3-2 in the 2nd period.
5-1 loss? Its all going according to plan.

Need to get shots on net. This isn't Igor, put shots on net they'll go in. Also, not the reason we lost but these refs were god awful. Missed penalty that led to the 3rd goal. Missed high stick that should've been a 4 minute PP. just god awful. Again, not the reason we lost but something a lot of us noticed
Not taking anything away from the Canes, they played great, but the officiating was AWFUL. Seig's helmet was ripped off forcing him off ice, lead to a goal, no call. Haula tripped, no call. Offsides lead to 4rth goal, no call. High stick to Jack's face draws blood, no call. Pitiful.
5 – 1 loss in game 1 and looking completely lost, where have we seen this script before? That being said, go Canes go!
Rooting for Canes, but be careful Cane fans, NYR won GM 1 5-1 4 goals 1 empty netter. GM 2 same thing 5-1 then NJD adjusted, BrindAmour is a better coach then Gallant so you have that going for you.
Fun game to watch – physical but not to the point of injury.
I feel like any commentary on this game without mentioning the missed roughing penalty on Seigenthaller is unfair to the devils.
I admit Carolina was the better team, but devils were only down by two when martinook punchers seig in The back of the head and rips his helmet off which DIRECTLY leads to a Carolina goal as Seig is forced to leave play and a man wide open right in front or Scmid.
Absolutely MASSIVE missed call that put the rest of the game out of reach.
This ignores the several high sticks missed, including a double minor, but who’s counting.
Devs didn’t play their best, but it was the first period that was truly horrendous. Whole game could’ve been different if not for that missed roughing penalty. Devils finally started to get legs under them in the second, but it was too late by then.
Canes are deadly man and to think missing 3 key cogs. But it is one game, NJ can surprise.
It is totally different thing to lose 5-1 to Rangers than losing to Canes for New Jersey. Why? Because Carolinas playing style is poison to Devils. There is a lot to figure out, if they wan't to win Canes.
The Canes were definitely the better team in this game and that first period was smothering. I still think it is pretty disingenuous to recap this game and not mention that the Cane's 3rd goal was only scored because Siegenthaler's helmet was ripped off by a Cane and no penalty was called. Game was still close in the second. Also not mentioning the blatant missed double minor high stick that should have led to a Devil's 5v3 late in the second as well that could should have opened the door to a substantial chance for the Devil's to crawl back into the game.
Devils looked better as the game went on, don’t want to make excuses as a Devils fan with the game 7 either but they definitely looked gassed from it and you can’t be that against a smothering team like Carolina. I think game 2 will be a lot closer, also need to sit graves and get timo back in.
This looked just like Devils vs Rangers first game. I think not having Mayer really hurt, he takes so many shots(even if they haven't been going in) that the defence has to pay a lot of attention to him. When he's not in the lineup they just have to shut down Hughes, which they did a masterful job of
2 Marino blocks and 4 posts. This game could have been 9-1
No mention of siegenthaler's helmet, huh?
