He would be a box office player if we drafted him. Closest thing since Ovi in the khl. Look at the sales Bedard is bringing to Blackhawks today. Imagine this man with Caufield and Suzuki oh my gosh

This is why it would be a massive mistake to pass on him.
Imagine if we pick someone like Dvorsky and he’s not developing great while Michkov comes over in 3 years and is an instant star? Hughes’ seat will start getting pretty hot if that happens

The only guy he should need a tie breaker with is Bedard, imho
flepine44
Well that is some decent company
Professional_Mode804
If we draft Dvorsky over this guy I will burn Montreal to the ground

Comped to gretzky wtf take him.
I really really hope we end up with him.

I am having a hard time understanding the 2026 point.
I understand that he is committed to a club in the KHL until then, but very often players committed to one league change leagues. Is this just confirmed that it will not happen because of the current political situation?
grimandnordic1
can u even imagine CC and MM smashing down 50 goals each every season for years to come fucking NUT.

Wayne Gretzky and fucking Mario Lemieux as draft year comps.. (obviously I don’t expect him to be that good) but if we pass on him.. man I just don’t know. I get that he may not come over for a while.. but you don’t get a chance to draft players like this often, and NEVER at 5. For me I take the risk 1000x out of 1000.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a better player card. If it wasn’t for the Russian factor this guy would be a lock at 2

I honestly don’t think Michkov is going to fall to 5th, I think we’re looking at Will Smith tbh, but there is no way you can pass on a player with Michlov’s potential if he’s still available for us.

Just for some comps
Bedard has 99% Star 99% NHLer
Fantilli has 74% Star 86% NHLer
Will Smith has 76% Star 80% NHLer

I guess it’s time we have our own Russian Rocket.

Since the louis leblanc debacle, I honestly dont want us, the fans to pressure for a prospect over an other. (Btw we picked leblanc over chris kreider. You know the year we would have won.)

Carey Price’s NHL contract ends in 2025-2026.
Matvei Michkov’s KHL contract ends in 2025-2026.
How great would it be IF the best 5th overall pick of this generation passes the torch to the Habs’ next 5th overall pick.
banyanoak
Good lord those draft-year comparables, be still by heart.
climbingtime
But what are the actual chances he falls to 5th?
simonnhl
Does he have to sign an ELC when he join the league or will they have to pay big money on his first contract?

So let’s see…..how does Montreal f* this one up….

I’m really excited about our situation. Hopefully, Michkov falls to 5th. But if not, I’m happy with Carlsson or Smith.
