To be fair 18 minutes is way too long. Yesterday’s game was supposed to start at 9:30, of course it started like 15 minutes after that. It was 11:30 and we were halfway through the 2nd period… 2 hours for 30 minutes of play. Starting to feel like baseball tbh.

Remind her that at least the game isn’t played two minutes at a time to gain inches for a field goal in between two hours of commercial breaks.

If you wait 45-60 minutes to start the game, you can DVR it, skip all the commercials and intermissions, and catch back up by the end. It’s the only way I watch any sport anymore. If you have the discipline to stay off your phone, it has the same suspense of watching live.

This is fantastic.

Sorry other sports but we need more than one break to grab more beer
Blleak
My wife fell asleep with 5 minutes left in the 3rd the other day.
When she woke up 10 minutes later she was surprised the game was over. She thought she was sleeping for an hour+

Hockey has half time between each quarter.

Outside of the ability to go grab food and drink it’s mostly because the condition of the ice deteriorates too fast to only have one intermission. Hockey (a long time ago) did only have one intermission at halftime but the ice was trashed.
The ability to clean the ice twice is why we see the quick, smooth and crisp play that we do and not a bouncing puck everywhere, so as annoying as it might be the product would suffer without it.

Me and my older brother have been playing hockey for a combined 21 years now. My parents still refer to periods as quarters.

Lmao this is great!

My wife: » When can we leave? »
Me: « there’s only 3 minutes left in the game »
My wife, returning after 3 minutes: « ready? »
dkyguy1995
I actually cite the two halftimes as a reason I love hockey
CalgaryChris77
You can get up and get a beer and a hot dog twice, how can she not like that?
Excellent_Opening927
Intermissions are ok commercial breaks make the game unwatchable
MontEcola
That’s what I do like about hockey. We always get a third half.
Mrinked91
That’s because in sports like NFL there are long ass breaks between each fucking play…..why i can never sit down and watch football too much tv bullshit and not much actual sports happening….with football you can go take a piss come back and not have missed much. In hockey you could have missed 2 goals and a fight….
Flutterwasp
Wouldn’t it technically be Thirdtime?
BlueRFR3100
Just point out that hockey is shorter than football because hockey only has three periods while football has four quarters.

They are skating at 25 mph hitting each other, challenge her to run 200 ft as fast as she can and maybe she can understand the breaks better.
ZebraEducational137
It’s ok to take breaks in between and there are very few commercials during the game. Football is 12 minutes of action for 3 hours of commercials. Then there is a halftime on top of that.
amach9
And during playoffs there can even be third, fourth or fifth halftime!
BuckEmBroncos
But I love the two intermissions. Did you tell her that?
catgotcha
I love the three-period setup. It’s like a three-act play. First 20 minutes is the introduction and groundwork and character development. Second 20 minutes is the playing of the actual hockey and the setup of the conflict. Third 20 minutes is when you’re approaching the climax and resolution.

The intermissions are for beer & snack runs, duh.

Two halves just doesn’t cut it the same way.
