I know almost everybody here wants him back, and even though I don’t think that’s likely, I also kind of just…don’t want him back.

Sure, he’s fun to watch, but I always found his play style to be risky to the point that he spent most games turning over pucks and falling because he dove for a puck too far out of reach.

“That should be starting to cast some doubt on general manager Steve Yzerman’s rebuild.”

It sucks but we are getting better. This statement by the author though.

I don’t want him back. If I’m gonna pay a player 6 million a year I want him to play way more than Bertuzzi has in the past 3 years. He’s missed something like 53% of our games. No thanks.

Oof. Just read the Detroit part. Embarrassing writing.

Meh. He wants to to hit the open market and get paid huge bucks. And he will.

But he isn’t worth that kind of money to a team like the red wings. He’s got to be going on deep playoff runs the next 2-3 years to be worth what he’s going to make. That ain’t the wings the next 2-3 years. The annual playoff runs start as the edvinssons, Soderbloms, and Cossas start hitting their primes.

Honestly I see Ken Holland throwing a bag at him this off-season. The oilers could use his grit in the playoffs. Granted, they could use an actual defense worth a shit, too, but that’s a different topic.

  6. Yeah it’s very unlikely we get him back

I love Bert, but I guarantee he’s going to get a massive contract that I don’t think he’ll live up to and I’d prefer it not be us.

    > The Detroit Red Wings have missed the playoffs seven years in a row and aren’t getting any closer to the postseason. That should be starting to cast some doubt on general manager Steve Yzerman’s rebuild. They need to start winning, and they need to do so now.

Except for the first three years of the rebuild we were just putzing around with Holland at the helm. If writers want to judge Yzerman and Yzerman alone, we’re finished with year 4, not 7, and have gotten better in each of the four seasons. How hard is it do just do a *little* research to not sound like you’re talking out of your ass?

I would prefer to re-sign Gus Nyquist iver Bert.

Not like a serious need to sign hm, but if we are going to sign a former Red Wing, that’s the one I want.

Larkin is going to fill the veteran leadership role on the team as we continue to improve, so I don’t think Bert fits based on his age. We need talent, but it should be younger. Florida, New Jersey and Buffalo are the teams on the rise we have to contend with, and they have young cores.

We’re all dumber for reading that and providing clicks.
