We gotta be real and admit they were the hungrier team out there tonight. The boys had to expect the Leafs wouldn’t just lay down and get swept – just couldn’t quite match their intensity. Still, narrow margins, and we can play much better. I expect the guys to be more ruthless on Friday.

  2. lotturm

We’re still 3-1, so it’s not time to lay down and cry yet, but now the leafs get to go home and they have momentum. And everyone knows the hockey gods hate us, plus look at what happened last time we were in a series with a 3-1 lead.

This is why you don’t talk shit until you get shit DONE. 3 games is not 4.

  3. ohwowitsrambo

Panthers played flat all game. Barkov was once again invisible. Just disappointing for a potential sweep / series winning game overall from start to finish

  4. FortWaltonBeachFL

first few weeks watching hockey, and even i could tell we were a lil off. felt a lot like a saints game

  5. PurifiedVenom

Honestly just glad we ruined the shutout because that would’ve been an obnoxious narrative.

Sucks we didn’t close it out but if you’d told me before the series started that we’d be up 3-1 after game 4 I’d take that every day.

Let’s refocus and close it out Friday. Think some of us got a little too cocky around here

  6. jlm0013

It felt like the Leafs beat the Cats at their own game.

  7. theamberlamps

Only saying the same thing as everyone else but Toronto way too talented to lose 4 in a row to the way Florida plays, the finesse finally did just enough for them tonight. We rely on a nasty forecheck and making dudes second guess decisions with the puck. It creates chances for the on-puck talented teams when we get it wrong.

    LFG Cats in 5

  8. ProLifeFloridaMan

Both teams played a great game. But for all the doom and gloomers, imagine how great it would be to eliminate Toronto in front of their home crowd like we did in Boston!

  9. BaronVonKeyser

I’d say try harder next time but there was no indication they tried hard this time

  10. grizzlby

Oh Mitch. Oooooohhh Mitch. Don’t get in Bennett or Chuckie’s way now, baby.

  11. IceMelon64

I really don’t have the energy to hear everyone talk about how « Leafs will 100% come back » for the next few days which is why I’m particularly salty about this loss, but I am happy to see everyone here is positive about the series as a whole, it really brings my mood up. Go Cats!

  12. iKauf_13

Leafs played exactly as you’d expect in an elimination game. Panthers played sloppy as hell. Lots of missed calls on both ends. All that said, we lost by 1.

Not too worried. Team will adjust. Let’s close it out on Friday.

  13. Ionlyeatmustard

We didn’t want to shoot all night long

  14. Salt_Election_3048

Oilers fan here, tough loss. I hate the leafs and really want you guys to blow them out next game cause I keep getting downvoted by all the leafs fans and they suck… that’s all lol

  15. Too much passing. Stop being fucking cute and shoot the puck.

  16. eadie30

We took the night off and it was basically a tie game with a crazy bounce off a ref. As long as Maurice and get the boys buzzing again Friday we should be good

  17. throwawaybeansnrice

I DONT EVER WANT TO SEE A BROOM AGAIN UNTIL WE FREAKING DO IT.

  18. SteamboatBilly15

We need to see more from Barkov and Tkachuk in game 5 tbh

  19. ZealousidealKey7104

Not a great game. The Panthers were passing up wide open looks all night. They tried to do too much. Tkachuk is due for a big game as he’s had a quiet series. Barkov has shut down the core four in this series, but what happened last series? The flu or something? Cats won’t win the Cup if he isn’t going. The Leafs adjusted to the strong side stretch pass and the Panthers were stymied.

The Leafs were playing a #8 v #1 road hockey game like the New Jersey Devils in the 90s. The Lightning beat us like that last year, and we’re going to see a lot of it vs Carolina next series. They’re going to have to cycle and get traffic to beat that negative approach. But the bottom line for this series is that it’s too late and Toronto doesn’t have the right personnel to sustain that strategy. They’re going to open it up next game at home and that’s when we bury them.

    Other thoughts:

*The Cats absolutely suck at the faceoff dot. When you don’t start with the puck and skate into the trap, you get 0 ES goals
*What the fuck kind of final fantasy luck was that on the first goal???
*Mitchie Marnie looked like Daniel Sedin in 2011 vs Brad Marchand. Total emasculation. Then he laughs at Tkachuk like a 3rd grader after the bully got in trouble with the teacher. The Leafs have dramatically underperformed for years and their entire management might be fired after the next loss. This kid will never win a thing.

  20. theamberlamps

Side note the Powerplay reeked of 2021 tonight. Good god fucking shoot the puck

  21. turtledove21

This sucks, winning in 5 isnt nearly as funny

  22. Jaxson_GalaxysPussy

Leafs played well defensively credit to them. Made the cats look slow and made them pass too much.
Hopefully the pressure of playing in Toronto gets to the leafs and hopefully this is a wake up for the cats.
We’ve been used to such good vibes in this sub for a while. As someone commented PoMo makes some adjustments and gets the boys buzzing again to close them out.

  23. jomapascual

I ain’t upset but they had to close it tonight. Closing tn is how we win a cup. No other chance

  24. theamberlamps

On IG just now saw a meme saying « your third @ has a small dick » and for the lols I pulled it up and it’s fucking Bob 😭

  25. EarthWonderful

Winning at home is cool but finishing the series in Toronto in 5 is cooler. Ain’t worried about it. See you all Friday. LGC.

  26. -The-Law

They spent 2 periods not shooting the puck. Can score if you don’t shoot.

  27. Florida’s a gentlemen state, gentlemen sweep coming.

  28. OGHamToast

Ya’ll played great tonight! I feel like of all the playoff hockey I’ve watched this season the Panthers have been the best looking team. Toronto being DESPERATE and having some puck luck is really the only reason they won, imo. Though they were also blocking everything so credit where it’s due, they played good team defense.

Up 3-1 still, can’t win em all, next game looks like FL will be taking it to the trenches from how this one ended. I’m here for it.

  29. homeskillet88

Would I have liked them to play better? Of course.
Would I have liked MORE a broadcast that didn’t make my ears bleed and put me in a bad mood and make me think I might as well have been in Toronto and that the panthers were just NPCs? Absolutely.

  30. DrHerbertEast

Did not look great tonight but that’s okay. I didn’t really expect to sweep Toronto. How panthers respond to how leafs played this game is going to be the true test.

  31. eadie30

Would be cool if someone besides Bobrovsky shows up for the next game

  32. Maywestpie

It’s ok. Sweeps often lead to too much time off and rust.

  33. teddyjj399

Not defending what Bennett did at the end of the game but it’s very funny to watch r/hockey freak out as if it’s not the most violent sport.

It’s all “fuck the leafs, leafs suck” and then everyone wants to be different and starts saying shit like “I want the leafs to win bc Florida is dirty”. As if every team doesn’t have their questionable plays. Saw one Carolina fan saying they’d rather face the leafs than the panthers in the ECF which is funny, acting as if you pick your playoff opponents.

  34. BuddhaBarkov

I’m usually pretty critical but I feel like im one of the few who isnt that upset. I don’t think lack of effort was the issue. Some adjustments needed. But this team has down well responding. I wouldnt get too worried about a goal where the difference on scoreboard is a oass off a ref shinpad. Toronto has a reprieve but they arent in drivers seat and it wasnt a blowout like weve seen in other series.

  35. AdmitJustiseIsBetter

People will shit on Barkov but it’s pretty clear at this point he’s not the scorer he was anymore. Gotta stop expecting more from him.

  36. yournextdoorneighour

    Let’s just say, I have a feeling

  37. vwman18

In a game where the effort and skill wasn’t quite there and none of the puck luck went the Cat’s way, they were still in it at the very end. The Leafs played without a lot of the mistakes we saw earlier in the series. Panthers just need to clean it up a bit, and they’ve got this.

  38. XxDRebelxX

It goes without saying that it would ideal to win tonight and be done with this series. Realistically, the Leafs have great players in their roster that we can’t just ignore it.

Tonight, 1st period good back and forth, very clear the leafs made adjustments to counter us but we were still putting a fight.
2nd and 3rd period they outplayed us. We couldn’t shoot the puck to save our lives, pk is still our kryptonite, Bob did an incredible job, leafs 2nd goal being in the arena I saw that bitch taking that open shot from a mile away and was literally calling that shit while talking to group sitting next to me as it happened.

It’s all good, we regroup and do ish this shit Friday.

  39. BuddhaBarkov

People saying Barkov was invisible really miss the details of the game especially on the defensive side. There was a lot of shifts he had to come from the other side of the ice and win back the puck and get it out or to someone open.

  40. CasperCann

Oh well, sweeping toronto would’ve been amazing, but it’s historically a very hard thing to do. The last time they were swept was back in the 1980-81 season, so sweeping would’ve been amazing but I’ll take 5-6, hopefully 5 for the memes but, as long as they get the 4 is all that matters.

  41. United_Marionberry_9

Not good but it’s ok. I think a lose might be good so they don’t get too comfortable but hoping for a better game Friday. Vamos Gatos! It ain’t over till it’s over

  42. AmuDiamond

Honestly? The guys kinda needed the L. Felt like they were getting a little too comfortable. I think this will light a fire under their butts and we’ll see a way better game Friday.

  43. rhunter99

Not the outcome I wanted but now you can bury them in front of leaf nation

  44. F00Manchu

We didn’t show up. Time to regroup. Sports are weird.
