@Maple Leafs de Toronto

Série la moins pénalisée depuis 2015.

Les équipes ont littéralement un livre de règles différent lorsqu’elles jouent contre Toronto. Comment l’équipe la plus pénalisée de la saison régulière ne prend-elle plus de pénalités comme par magie.

    Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

Officiating in the NHL has needed an overhaul for years now but the constant throughout is the refs scared to look like they have a positive bias towards TOR.

    It’s painfully obvious.

This league isn’t real. It flat out isn’t a real league.

Let’s start our own league, with home broadcasts and rules!!

    Wow.

I just did a quick count of penalty minutes outside the last 2 in both series. Not counting game misconducts since they don’t lead to a man advantage.

Florida averages 4 PIM against Toronto, and averaged 9.4 PIM against Boston. That difference is actually statistically significant, which is remarkable given the tiny sample sizes.

It’s posts like these regarding refs and penalties that make it embarrassing to suggest being part of this fan base.

  5. 1columbia

Pathetic truly. They don’t even try to hide it anymore.

  6. Unlucky_Syllabub_976

Oh the bias is certainly there, and not just in the post season. There has been lots of statistical data posted in the past that highlights the anomalies when Toronto is involved. The problem with having corporate owners though, who also have broadcast rights, is that they won’t dare shake the boat. Sad really.

I like easing up on the whistle a bit during playoffs. It needs to be a grittier and tougher game for sure. What I hate is that teams that learn to play a disciplined game are at a significant disadvantage when the whistles are put away to the extent they have been this year. A chippy regular season team should absolutely have a disadvantage in the playoffs if they can’t stay disciplined. What’s the point of having the talking heads say « stay out of the box » when one team can get a couple quick PKs, then play like there aren’t any rules, while the other team has to tip toe around them because they know a weak one is coming. Makes for a terrible game.

Game management we rarely should get much called against us and when we do it’s obviously always a weak game management call

This league sucks and I hate it

  9. dnaboe

Because the Leafs play a skilled a clean game so the refs know they’ll never have an opportunity to even out the penalties and thus swallow their whistles.

Move alone, nothing to see here

I remember a regular season game against the cats this year gudas barely touched our guy after the whistle and we got a powerplay leading to goal and a win. Last night gudas charged and executed kampf into oblivion after a whistle and nothing lol. I can’t hate on the cats for it, there are two rulebooks and they are taking advantage of the inconsistent league and officiating.

There were more penalties for less blatant actions in the first period of the Edmonton game last night. After watching the Leafs game I couldn’t believe they were actually calling holding in Edmonton

Ways to give yourself the best chance at winning in Stanley Cup Playoffs:
    – Goon it up
    – Develop an amazing PK to deal with some penalties
    – Go after opponent’s stars on the ice in last few seconds bc who cares, no consequences
    – Don’t be Leafs
    – If facing Leafs, turn up above to next level bc of game management

  14. TheGardiner

At what point is there enough attention on this that it gets addressed?

  15. Matrix17

Of course it is. Because that benefits Florida

  16. Spillin-tea

Refs are 💯 getting paid off too “look the other way “.

  17. placeinvader

Don’t worry they called like 30 minutes of penalties after the game was over problem solved

  18. Murky-Smoke

    Ffs stop with this shit.

You gotta play hard in the playoffs. Dirty shit is gonna happen. Cheap shots to the face, no big deal. That’s hockey, and it happens 200 times per game by both teams, don’t kid yourself.

It’s the blindside elbows and headlock takedowns to the ice that need to be called and disciplined, period. That shit doesn’t belong in the game.

  19. SmokeontheHorizon

Watching the Oilers game right after the Leafs last night was night and day.

Soft slash on McDavid? Instant call.

High stick? Called the moment it happens, they don’t wait to see if the guy flinches or falls.

Hint of bullshit after the whistle in the last half of the 3rd? Just start sending guys back to the locker room.

    It’s a fucking joke.

  20. vivlavid

Ok who actually thinks the NHL is doing this on purpose? Why would they want 1 team to sweep the other team? If it’s truly rigged, Toronto should win the next 2 so it goes to 7 and they can make the most money from this.

  21. ItzGrenier

This series, Florida has 42 PIMS to torontos 24

  22. r/hockey disagrees and says we are just cry babies.

  23. Fld went 110 minutes without a penalty!

Overall, I haven’t been bothered by the reffing. The less calls they make, the less bad calls they make.

But they let so much go, then call the softest penalty. It’s just baffling.

Cross checking penalties are the most random of calls. 40 cross checks a game, the softest get the calls.

  24. steboy

I really just need an explanation for how the referees decided Bunting bleeding didn’t warrant 4 PIMs.

It’s not a subjective rule. It’s very straightforward.

    Blood = 4 PIMs.

Please, refs, show your work on this one.

  25. BarioBlue

Those totals are sketchy to say the least but it makes sense. If they called all the penalty’s as the rule book is written the panthers would be the most penalized team in the playoffs and the series wouldn’t have some of the lowest totals ever. They can’t make it more obvious at this point. The eye test says they aren’t calling it by the book on the panther and the statistics clearly back that up. You can’t deny both the eye test and undebatable statistics. the league is actively trying to manipulate games its way to much and it’s becoming undeniable and obvious.

  26. swint6996

Don’t really feel as though this is reflective of a “broken league”. This series has been low-intensity and I haven’t really noticed too many “missed calls” either way.

  27. DeyCallMeTimmy2shoes

It’s all a big conspiracy to stop the leafs from advancing in the second round

  28. Strangle49311

They may as well just award a penalty allotment at the start of the game for both teams.

Announce that the panthers will get 3 power plays and the leafs will get 4.

The opposing coach can assess a powerplay out of their remaining allotment at any whistle. Infraction or not.

At least that would be more transparent and allow for some strategy from the teams. It’s incredibly pathetic that this league doesn’t give a shit.

If they want game management give it to the coaches at least, not the refs
