Well, I’m glad I’m not the one making that decision. Could look bad to pass him at 5 if he’s available, and could turn out to never play in the NHL ending up a waste of a top 5 pick.
I trust the management for now.

if San Jose isn’t willing to move down to 5 (not sure CBJ trades pick 3, they badly need a centre and dont want to miss out on both smith and carlssonv), then I probably trade pick 5 to either philly or Washington. Get one of benson or leonard, and use the extra assets + Floridas pick to move back up in the mid first round, and get Oliver Moore

I’m placing my bet on us drafting him despite the smoke and mirrors

This is a rumour based on someone knowing someone who was the scout last year. Don’t read into this lmao

not drafting michkov would be a colossal mistake imo
edit: if he’s available

honestly dont trust any media coming out of Russia.
They’ll say anything to placate Putin and his propaganda machine.

If this is true, it’s the worst news ever. It cannot be understated how awful it would be for the future of this franchise to pass up on Michkov if he’s available. The Coyotes will be laughing all the way to the bank if we pass on Michkov.

I really hope someone in the top 4 makes the decision for us.
Here’s the thing: I really like the player, I can live with the risk of picking him, but I’m not married to that idea because I’m also aware of the context.
But this pick will be a no-win decision for the Habs at least for the next 4 years, and it will make an already rabid fanbase turn even more toxic. We just lived through a controversial pick *(although for completely different reasons, yes we all know, you’re not teaching anyone anything new, settle down)* and I’m not sure I want to go through that chaos again.
Especially if it turns out that the worst-case scenario ends up prevailing (which we won’t know until a few years down the road).

I don’t trust this source at all, its literally from someone who got fired by the org, a disgruntled ex employee
but I like our position, if Michkov is available at 5 and they don’t take him, we know the Fo/owner arent that serious about winning, at 3/4 they have outs but at #5 they dont have one, they either take Michkov or basically admit winning really isnt the priority for them

Can’t believe people are still deluding themselves into thinking we’re drafting Michkov. Obviously this random article isn’t proof but the many mock drafts, words from connected people, our GM’s very own interview showing his hesitation, and the rumours like this all point towards a similar picture. All these little hints add up and are gonna keep appearing until this sub implodes on draft day. Of course they might all be complete bullshit but I genuinely think we won’t get him

Russia is about to change the rules and Russian athletes won’t be able to play in North America. I have no idea why this isn’t being widely reported. Grant McCaag did a podcast about it on youtube. The only way russian hockey prospects will be able to play in NA is to defect like they had to in the 70s.
Russia is no doubt waiting until the draft is over to roll this out so they can give the middle finger to teams that draft Russian players.

Taking with a colossal grain of salt obviously, but if this is true, I hope to god some of teams ahead of us take him and save us from our own stupidity. It would be beyond disappointing to pick top 5 in an exceptional draft, only to reach for another « good but not great » prospect.

Just because of that, I’d draft him and keep him in Laval for 3 years just for spite

Out front office isnt much on leaking news.. I’m not sure its worth putting much stake in stuff like this.
