  1. I read today that they are now looking at an area in Mesa. But it looks more like a last ditch effort. In my opinion Meruelo should just give up on Phoenix move it to somewhere that wants him and the team and start all over. Years down the road Phoenix will regret sending them away and beg them back.

  2. When Ed Jovanoski says pull the plug. I'd say that's good advice. Houston is a bigger TV market. They got better support than The NBA with the Vancouver Grizzlies.

  3. If the metro Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale area has shown there true colors, Coyotes go where people aren’t so narrow minded! Does anyone in AZ. understand “centrally located?” 🤠

  4. Poorly run team but still, badly treated employees is worse.

  5. Fans from other markets like to say NHL hockey will never work in Arizona. They should all watch this video to understand that this franchise has virtually been set up to fail from the beginning. And the importance of arena location being key. Consider the struggles in Ottawa with the arena in Kanata and their ownership/financial issues–they pale in comparison to what the Coyotes have been through. Outside of possibly the Original 6 markets, any other franchise with poor ownership and bad arena will not draw fans.

  6. And Trials and Tribble-ations was a great DS9 episode!

  7. The NHL may have tried to long to make Arizona work, but too many fans forget that other franchises came close to moving over the years due to ownership/arena issues but the League helped them hold on until the issues were addressed. If memory serves right, Sabres, Islanders, and Penguins are 3 teams that were close to being moved.

  8. Some people forget how close New Jersey came to relocating to Nashville and that they had a series of cash-poor owners. If the Devils weren't bought by Harris Blitzer Sports Entertainment and gotten Prudential Center, it's easy to imagine them being long gone. Point being that Coyotes' fate could befall other franchises. All fans should sympathize with Arizona fans who may be losing their team after so many years.

  9. They need to move to Austin, Tx… Techies, College kids, lots of rich yuppies, beautiful Tx hill country, Joe Rogan home base with celebs moving there, vibrant party district, Austin city limits venue, Lake Austin and Lake Travis in and around the city, U.T , Austin is the State Capitol. 2 plus million people in the area.

  10. I have supported them like people supported the Cubs. Sorry !

  11. Shannon, could you do a video of which teams reside in ownership owned buildings and which ones lease/rent a building that's used for concerts, conventions and what have you?

  12. The year is 2063.

Gary Bettman is still the commissioner.

Quebec still doesn't have a team.

The West Kingman Arena and Entertainment district has been voted down again for the third straight year.

The Coyotes will now play in their third straight year at the Cottonwood High School Gymnasium.

  13. There has been so much instability with this team and it is a miracle that they have been in Arizona for so many years. The Phoenix market is certainly big enough, but the people have voted and it doesn't sound like the Coyotes will exist too much longer and it is a shame.

  14. Should have moved them back to Winnipeg in 2011 and now because they refused the team has lost hundreds of millions more and now Buttman is going to try and sale to the highest bidder. So who knows where they will end up.

  15. Long time Winnipeg Jets fan here since the 80s. I remember when we lost the team the first time, got them back one last year, and then they were really gone. I went to the "funeral" in the old barn. To a young man and a young fan this was devastating and left a mark for years on the soul of the province.

I know there are Coyotes fans who would have the same reaction if the worst happens and I sympathize with them.

We have our Jets back now, and while that has been exhilarating, we count ourselves very lucky.

To the Coyotes fans, we are pulling for you, we know what it is to lose your team, and would not wish that on anyone.

  16. Hockey news:
-You have ESPN, a behemoth in the media industry with billions of dollars to throw around
-Shannon, a guy with a white board and a lot of hockey jerseys

    David crushes Goliath

  17. Nobody can say that the NHL hasn't gone above and beyond in trying to keep a team in Arizona. BUT, enough is enough. Houston is the 4th largest city (population) in the USA. It's time!

  18. By now, the best path forward would be a fresh start somewhere else, be it Houston or Kansas City.
The team was moved to Phoenix without a hockey arena or even a plan for a hockey arena. This was a huge mistake.
I said earlier that I watched the Cleveland Crusaders and Barons both leave. The Penguins and Pirates nearlly left Pittsburgh on several occasions and those were tough times. I saw the Colts leave Baltimore and the Browns leave Cleveland and both were massive disappointments. And, of course, Hartford, Quebec and Atlanta.
The Tempe prohect is dead and the franchise has a lot of bad history. Best they move on and try for another franchise in the future.

  19. The moneypit of Arizona is dead in the water but Gary doesn't care, Gary wins.
Can't pay the bills? The NHL will take care of them. lmao
The NHL politics is ruining the sport at this moment. Too many behind the scenes bad stories.

  20. Feel bad for the AZ fans. As a Vegas fan seeing the opposite happen for the franchise always made me wonder what could have happened if they had a stable PLAN.

  21. Why does the NHL (seemingly) have so many "ownership" issues? We had the same carousel of owners here in Tampa for YEARS before Jeff Vinik took over and stabilized EVERYTHING. It seems pretty clear that solid ownership is the FOUNDATION of a successful sports franchise. It doesn't GUARANTEE success…but it sure dos help. And the Lightning are proof of that.

  22. As a Bulls and White Sox, I cannot express how happy I am for Arizonans that Reinsdorf didn’t end up owning them. This experiment would’ve ended a decade ago if that happened, he would’ve killed any remaining interest in the team a long time ago.

Although he could’ve possibly also fucked off to Arizona and left our teams alone for good.. oh well, guess we’ll never know.

  23. Rogers Place in Edmonton is a beautiful arena. Yet within a block is some of the worst urban poverty in Canada. I have a friend who does volunteer work at the Mission Hall. They are a faith based organisation that feeds and clothes poor and homeless people. Some of them live in tents when it is -40C right within walking distance of the hockey arena. Something is wrong with that.

  24. You make a good point about players desire to sign with uncertainty looming. Not only could free agents be difficult to sway, but what's a guy like Logan Cooley thinking when he can just wait out his college eligibility like so many others before him have? Tough situation for sure, feel for the diehard Yotes fans

  25. The Coyotes get chance after chance after chance yet Jets, Nordiques, Northstars, Whalers, all got no or very little help from the league. Time to move this failed project.

  26. The Tempe stuff came across the news here around KC. Patrick Mahomes stated that he wants the Coyotes here in KC. We have the T-Mobile center which was built initially for NHL/NBA teams.

  27. they should just play their home games in Hamilton but keep the arizona name.

  28. As i recall scottsdale wanted the parking revenue at the los arcos site and was terminated. On that site is skysong a mixed use innovation center partnered with ASU housing 50+ companies and is today a major investment engine

  29. Elliotte Friedman basically saying that owners are big mad about the Coyotes situation is fun. This just gets juicier and juicier!

  30. Thanks for the insight, and putting it in a timeline for better context. I understand the Glendale county council being salty for getting had all these years. They probably bought into that this would be one of the driving forces to grow the area substantially, and it's sad that the synergies haven't panned out.

Potentially, it could've been what Arlington or even Fort Worth have become for Dallas, thus helping the Phoenix-metro area grow as a whole, and not put all the strain on just one city when it comes to population density and housing costs.

Bytw, great choice to put the front of the arena displaying the most über-douchy kind of event with the duplicitous message, in this instance to the Glendale legislature and voters: only you will ultimately be held accountable for greenlighting all this mess.

  31. Honestly Hamilton is a $ maker idea. It has its own small market similar to Winnipeg and Quebec, but it also has the giant bleed over market with Toronto. Big GTA sales will happen since they can't get enough of the Leafs. It would even help Buffalo a bit with fans going to watch them play against Buffalo. Both Leafs and Sabres may not WANT Hamilton in, but it would make the league pretty good $. If the league ever goes beyond 32 teams and grows to 36 for the future, then you will likely see Hamilton and possibly Quebec added in the East.

  32. A thousand excuses but the simple fact is that this 25 year experiment in the desert has got to stop.
    Coyotes need to go. ✋🏾🗿

  33. I feel like the team won't move as long as Bettman's still league GM.

  34. If the hometown superstar currently playing north of the boarder said that he wanted to come play with the Yotes…do you think that would help the arena situation for them? (Like that’s ever going to happen but it’s a unique thought)

  35. Brooklyn was great for hockey, and I even went to a Ducks game at the original Coyotes arena and enjoyed that too. Better than Glendale!

  36. Talk To Montreal about Losing it's Baseball Team. One thing we know at least is that Baseball will be back, at least when Tampa, Idiot 2028 contract expires.. I do feel sorry for local Arizona fans.. The Retire Canada/People can still root for their Orig teams. Right>.. R. BTW- Yes everyone ask's .. I'm John Kruk's Cousin.. In Canada..

  37. If they move, I think Milwaukee is the best option
The Brewers and Bucks are popular they can stay in central division and the rivalry with the Wild writes itself

  38. Remember former Sharks president Greg Jamison? He was supposed to buy the Coyotes when they were under league ownership. All the Coyotes fans looked at him as a savior, and he spoke to the media like he already owned the team. Bettman finally imposed Jamison a deadline to buy the Coyotes, only to find out that Jamison didn't have any money! The NHL dodged a bullet, or should I say, dodged a John Spano.
