I mean kinda. Especially after what happened to KK. But trust the front office. I know I do

I’m more concerned of why he didn’t sign yet
FormalWare
I’m worried that Caufield and the Habs will settle on a bridge deal, and that he’ll still be RFA at the end of that. If he performs to expectations, he’ll be due a huge payday – and he’ll draw offer sheets, for sure.
CreateorWither
Yeah, sign him asap. 9 mill over 8 years? Fine, do it.
Peckerhead321
No
Habsfan_1984
I’m not concerned but definitely hoped he would follow Suzuki and sign a similar deal. Does seem to be trending in the direction of a bridge deal and a likely double digit deal in a few years.

No, I’m not. Historically the contract after the ELC can be contentious. The player doesn’t have arbitration, and there’s no pressure point until training camp.
Teams are free to OS him, I highly doubt they will give him a contract ridiculous enough that Montreal won’t match.
There’s also nothing to talk about at the moment, so websites and tv shows need topics to talk about.

After KK, yes absolutely
Not_drunk_cactus
A team would need to give him at least 8mil for him to accept.Thats 2 first, a second and a third.
Most rebuilding team would want to keep those pick. Other team are too close to the the cap to do it.
He’s small, just got a shoulder injury most GM dont like those risk.
I’m not worried at all.
BlazeOfGlory72
Not really. Caufield is arguably our most important player and if push came to shove, we’d sign him no matter how outlandish the offer sheet. I’m also not overly concerned about overpaying for Caufield. No team is ever bad because they paid their star players what they are worth, or a little more. Teams only get into cap trouble when they start overpaying for role players and depth. It won’t be Caufield making 8 or 9 million that tanks us, it’ll be players like Anderson and Gallagher making 5.5 – 6.5 million.

Not really, it will get done
izzue66
If he does sign an offer sheet, first assuming around $6,302,231 – $8,402,975 range, meaning a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick.
The current teams who have these 3 picks available are
Anaheim, Arizona, Buffalo, Chicago, Calgary, Carolina, Columbus, Dallas, Detroit, Nashville, Seattle and St-Louis.
Anaheim, Chicago and Columbus will likely not do it for with their top 3 picks.
Doubt anyone would want to go to Arizona at this point.
Calgary and St-Louis doesn’t have the cap space.
Dallas has a projected cap space of 7.3M next year, doubt he would go there as our offer is more or less in that range.
Which comes down to Buffalo, Carolina, Detroit, Nashville and Seattle. Buffalo has quite a few youngsters to sign in 2-3 years. So i doubt they would be going after Caufield and commit to a long term deal.
These 4 remaining teams also have their 2 upcoming 1st rounders if they choose to give him $8,402,976 – $10,503,720
Definitely worrisome, especially for Carolina…
private_liberty
People are scared of an offer sheet but only 12 teams meet the criterias to offer between 6.3M and 8.4M. Among them there’s Arizona, Anaheim and Chicago…

Hockey writers are trash. Barely a step above hockeybuzz.

The guy and his agent are on vacation, when they come back they’ll sign. Jeez people chill.

Then we just match
Emer1929
Habs are only saying that a signing will happen any moment to put pressure on Caufield’s camp because both sides know they aren’t close at all.
KantanaBrigantei
We need everyone to fit within the salary structure of the team. It’s a finite pie, but we always spend to the cap.
There’s no reason for Caufield to not get his fair share. He’s a valued member of our core, but everyone needs to fit within the pie.
ManufacturerKooky602
Not at all, unlike Kotkaniemi a few years back, Montreal will match any offer teams bring to Caulfield.
