  1. Draisaitl signing with a rising juggernaut Blackhawks in 2026 to team with Bedard, Nazar, Reichel (his countryman) Korch, Del Mastro etc would be like Hossa joining Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook, Sharp in 2010.

  2. Funny to me how Matthews is guaranteed to leave but drai and Mcdavid are staying for sure

  3. I’m really liking Leon as of late. I don’t mean I’m sexually attracted to him. Just really liking his play lately. Not in a gay way tho.

  4. "The great Oilers seem to leave" is all pre-salary cap. Teams like the Rangers could afford to outbid anyone. Now, everybody has the same cap issues.

  5. I think top talent, management included (ahem dubas) are starting to wake up to the fact that winning in Canada is an uphill battle, the deck is obviously stacked against the Canadian teams.

Who would want to stick around knowing Betman is doing everything in his power to keep American teams percolating to the top.

Bring on the rah rah conspiracy comments.

  6. You're forgetting that when Leon signed his $8.5m deal, he wasn't worth $8.5m. He definitely grew into his contract.

Will he command more in the range you're suggesting? Sure. But it's not like he needs to make up for his previous…

  7. I think Draisaitl has to like what management is doing for him to stay and what the salary cap is like. The players paid top dollar are going to be 32-33 when he re-signs and still have another 2 years+. If they don't get some more young talent in, he might not see it as a place that he can win.

  8. Pointless discussion don't start echoing sport talk show. TV the devil I tell ya

  9. I think that any player that does too good being a team or linemate with mcdavid wont command a high salary contract. Its too risky. He has proved himself but not for a whole season. Same goes for every other player with season highs on edmonton. Would they all have season highs if mcdavid was not there?!

  10. LA and New York can $$$$ up without putting it in an NHL contract.
a few appearances for high profile investors in the team winning.
You can't stop a player from using their image to make $
well. imagine getting the. i will pay you massive $$$$ IF you are in this jersey when you make that appearance. but zip if you are not.
    That can and does happen.

  11. The timing couldn't be worse for Edmonton and Toronto. There are tons of up and coming teams that are not chained to bad contracts for too long that could actually have a better shot at the cup than their own teams in the long run. LA, Detroit and Buffalo improved a lot and are starting to get their core together while teams like Anaheim and Chicago are building with the next generation of talent. While the latter are still on the rebuilding phase, their current or upcoming star players will no doubt attract players with high talent like Draisaitl, Matthews, Marner etc.

  12. I don't think Leon would leave without Mcdavid, like seeing the Sedin brother split up not sure the Hockey gods wouldn't allow it. Both can stand on there own, but Mcdavid wouldn't have 153 points this year without Leon there. They maybe wont stay in Edmonton, but the "dynamic duo" we are seeing, won't be seen again for a long time, and is in both there interests to stay together.

  13. McDavid should of taken a lesser contract because of all the endorsement money he is making it would of been easier for Leon to resign and to make a stronger team

  14. I don't know much about hockey business, but one thing I've learned is that any team can lose. One of the stars may jump to another team only to find it goes nowhere, weighed down further by adjusting to new relationships. I wager the friendships on the Oilers team are strong and the chemistry on the ice will keep Draisaitl and McDavid inspired to be in Edmonton.

  15. Doesn't matter how special he thinks it is or how much McDavid might try to convince him the dollar rules all and the Crosby Malkin thing was at the end of their careers where neither one would of commanded top dollar on the open market and as you mentioned they had the cups. With Malkin the difference between his top dollar at the end of his career vs what the Pens paid him is probably a million or less. Here we are talking Draisaitl getting 13-14m depending on what the cap is. So unless the Oilers can make that cap space up then he is gone let's not forget if Skinner pans out to be the goalie they are hoping he can be that is another 4-6m when his contract is up one year after Draisatl is up and I can say by then if they haven't reached the cup finals he is gone, like why would he want to stick around for the same stuff over and over and it wouldn't surprise me if McDavid is gone after that. Having superstars is nice but if the team doesn't win or you don't play the cap right then it's not going to last their entire careers.

  16. Matching 11m contracts like toews and kane. Its what lets me sleep at night

  17. Not a great comparison. Leon deserves a BIG raise where Mathews has already screwed his team.

  18. Dry got a FAIR contract at the time for his 70 points where as Mathews h0sed his team along with Marner.

  19. Ah, yes, those always-contending New York Rangers. Can we please stop acting like they're anything more than a retirement stop/top payday now? Please? They're not a Cup threat. They haven't been in years. They won't be any time soon.

  20. The thing that's not discussed is actual off-ice factors. McDavid and Drai are good, good friends. That's one. Two; they sync perfectly on the ice and they BOTH know that. 3; and I think the most important fact to note here is both these dudes wanna win the cup. So if they do leave, it's because they will go to a team that can slot them to win the ultimate goal.

SO think about that. Both em know they got better chances together, cause any team that could trade for them, loses their contendership in trading for em. Like think what'd you have to give up to get either. They are closer to winning in Edm than anywhere else, split or not.

Haters hate, but the cap era don't lie.

  21. They're always gutted. These videos articles and discussions always come up when a canadian team lose lol

  22. Leon and Connor are proud of what they’ve built to become a contender, they really want to win with this core. Connor took less to ensure the deal with Leon before, but they both will be needing a big raise to stay. Depending on how close they are in two years will help determine if Drai maybe a shorter deal to stay. But who knows what each of them is really thinking!

  23. The point of view I originally thought of was that of the oilers. Oilers fans constantly complain about the rest of the team, and less will be given to those guys if they both stay. If the oilers want the cup, I would get rid of one

  24. "The new Yorks of the world the LA's" bruh greztky was traded he didnt leave for LA. Do better

  25. idk where he would go if he wants to win a cup, guess it could change in 2 years. but i dont think cap situations will get much better for good young teams atm

  26. I mean I feel like Draisaitl and McDavid don't want to leave eachother. Either they leave together or they don't. And I don't think either is going to leave.

  27. I don’t see it happening but we will see I could see Mathews leaving more then I could see leon leaving the oilers have had some playoffs success with the oilers plus your point of how when he signed his first deal was top dollar he was a 65 point guy that got 8.5m if Connor wants to stay leon will stay if leon wants to stay Connor stay they are both good friends the oilers have 17m when leons a free agent they have 20m when Mcdavid’s a free agent plus they both are heavily rumoured to have ownership in the team which is a lot a money even if its a small amount
