  1. the league has changed since back then.. even the cap contraction due to covid has forced some parity in the league, on top of that.. playoff hockey is different from regular season hockey as seen from the leafs.. to a degree.. just get in could be true to an extent.. esp. when you have a goalie that can catch fire..

  2. I think with Larionov, the Russian Hockey Federation would have been owed a whack of dough, if the Canucks kept his rights and Larionov refused to let any more money go to them. I'm sure Quinn wanted to keep him, for his own sake as well as keeping Bure happy.

  3. The Canucks got burned trying to pick up yet another teams garbage in an attempt to find a gem while skipping the effort it takes to develop a player of their own. While it’s only a 7th round pick they gave up….It’s still ultimately became a waste of an asset. Until this franchise starts actually trying to draft and develop their own players, I have zero faith that things are going to improve any time soon. Their game plan has consistently been to unload draft picks and bring in players in who are past their ELC deals. The problem is that if you don’t have a couple of young guys in your lineup on ELCs, then you’re always going to struggle with cap problems. Could you imagine it Benning had kept the pick he used to acquire OEL and Garland? We could be potentially looking at a team with 12 million in Cap space right now, and Dylan Guenther coming in and contributing on an ELC next season. Aquilini is to blame for all of it. Let’s not kid ourselves every GM the Canucks have had since Gillis has been a puppet. Trevor Linden saw the writing on the wall and got the hell out of there. Could you imagine how much further ahead the Canucks would be today had Linden been able to start a proper rebuild when he wanted to?

  4. The canucks will be just as bad next year maybe even worse capped out no D nothing in the minors coming there done for a longrime
