So happy you brought up the Vinicius Jr racism in La Liga. This isn’t new. Another Brazilian player had banana’s thrown at him when he was on Barcelona over a decade ago.
The president of la Liga came out and blamed Vini Jr over the fans. The only solution would be for the players to walk off and refuse to play. Thankfully a lot of the ESPN FC pundits also said the same and shamed the league for it
South Florida sports is the only good thing coming out of Florida
It’s beautiful to see the Celtics choke harder than the Bucks so I don’t have to feel quite as embarrassed for losing to the Heat.
Emma this is wonderful. It's very nice to have a left-leaning sports talk show. Have you touched on Deshaun Watson’s sexual conduct and the Browns turning a blind eye?
25:00 – I'm sorry, Emma…that part about the analytics is simply not true. Just like in politics, analytics can be VERY valuable in sports, if applied correctly. Ask the Oakland A's in 2002, who basically revolutionized the process by which games are played and players chosen, coached and managed.
Absolutely there is a cottage industry of people who use statistics to provide sensationalist gobbledygook, both in politics and in sports (and who would know about the former more than you?)…but to suggest that the analytics department is not something to be taken seriously is something I think you don't mean to imply, but perhaps inadvertently did.
I came on this channel to see a woman in the left blogosphere whom I trust and who's heart I admire – and often disagree with – provide her brand of lefty, feminist perspective on the sports she enjoys following and commenting on, as you pledged to provide in the first episode of this show. I'm glad to see that it mostly eschews some of the worst chauvinistic tendencies that make sports commentary mostly a male, right-wing bubble that – while having its own charm and distinction – is (among other complaints I have) too often free of reason or too reliant on "gut" or so-called "instinct", valuing that over clear fact. I hope you'll continue with your commentary in a way that adds to the sports discussion space, and does not subtract from it.
Please keep up the good work. It's really a delight to hear you speak on sports.
34:16 Sorry, but Joel Embiid was NOT healthy. He hurt his knee in the final game against the Nets, and missed the first game of the Celtics series. He should have been out 4 to 6 weeks but came back after 2 weeks to play.
Why not introduce yourself as Emma "Sports" Vigeland on every ep?
Id like to see you guys have Evan Drellich on here (or on thurs MR). Not to distill down his book on the Astros too much, but the data analytics are used broadly and sometimes haphazardly in a McKinsification of sports front offices in service of the owners bottom lines.
Been a viewer of MR for years, first time watching ESVN, loving the show guys! Wish I checked it out sooner
