    Damn ownership Kiboshed it.

    Key takeaways:

    * Ron Hextall was the driver behind PIT’s interest in Miller, but their coach (Mike Sullivan) and ownership group (FSG) were against the move.

    * Jason Zucker was the roster player seemingly coming back to Vancouver, which lines up with reports that the Canucks were trying to flip Zucker to another team before pulling the trigger on the deal.

    * If ownership was against the move and Hextall and his AGM Chris Pryor are now gone, I think that pours cold water on the prospect of an offseason trade, not that one looks likely anyway. At minimum, it means their ownership isn’t demanding a win-now, cap-be-damned move for Miller.

Full (paywalled) article [here](https://theathletic.com/4542179/2023/05/24/pittsburgh-penguins-franchise-nhl-playoff-streak/). It’s a fascinating read, it feels like you could CTRL+F « Hextall » and « Penguins » with « Benning » and « Canucks » and sum up the two franchises’ mismanagement just as well.

Good on FSG for realizing the money/value proposition of Miller’s contract.

Just another reminder that Brian Burke is an incredibly overrated hockey executive.

IMO – penguins make the playoffs with Miller acquired at the deadline. Not saying it would be a great move long term for them, but short term.. they make it in.

Hextall got fired for moves he was more or less pressured into making? Lol.

We’re glad to have Millsy here. In another timeline, we would have had Bo for 8 yrs instead.

Hard watching how fast Granlund has declined.

So are any “the Miller rumours are made up by the evil media” people left?

The more that comes out about the supposed Miller trade, the more it differs from the original « we turned down two 1sts for him » report
