@Canadiens de Montréal

Cole either needs a new agents or is ok taking less because he should absolutely be getting more than dukes got

    Edit: Just some numbers

Cole and Nick both are signing/signed their new contacts at the same age and after the same amount of NHL seasons 22 and 2 years, so it’s a direct comp

Coles previous 82 games before contract

    47 goals 23 assists for 70 points

Nicks previous 82 games before contract

    20 goals 36 assists 56 points

I have a hard time believing this because it’s too good to be true.

  3. Yamcha_is_dead

If they get him on that long of a term for under 8M, it’s an absolute win.

  4. shiram

Je sais pas trop si on peut faire confiance a Marinaro, mais j’en ai beaucoupe envie en ce moment.

  5. 4BobbyOrr

Anyone have the hockey30 article where he read this?

  6. KeepUpTheFPS

I’ll believe it when I see it

  7. RolandFigaro

I mean it makes sense. Cole hasn’t played a full season yet

  8. BlazeOfGlory72

If they get him for less than 8 million on a long term deal, that would be a steal. As much as I love Suzuki, I think Caufield is probably the better player, or at least the more impactful one. Getting your two star players locked in at under 8 million would be huge.

I stopped reading after « [Tony Marinaro] »

I do like the Sick Podcast, but at the same time Tony is like an old uncle that rants most of the time. I will believe it when it happens, but otherwise, it’s just like any George Laracque rumors, it’s a rumor. I just hope the deal is done before the start of rookie camp.

  11. jujuboy11

One of those two factors is hard to believe. I’d be very shocked to hear that Pat Brisson of all agents backed down from a 9M AAV and will also be accepting max term with an increasing cap.

Maybe Caufield got involved and said he’s rather secure long term money in case another injury occurs?

  12. Kotkaniemint

Marinaro’s « source » also told him the contract would be done before the season ended. So take this with a grain of salt.

  13. VictorEnterprise13

I really hope this is true, would be an incredible deal

  14. Lithium187

Take notes Toronto…or don’t and pay Matthews 13 million a season and wonder why the 1st round is so difficult.

  15. HabitApprehensive889

Tony also said it was done and would he announced in season…so I am not holding my breath…really would be nice tho

  16. indiecore

Having Caufield and Suzuki locked up long term at like 7.8 each or whatever will look so fucking good in a couple years.

  17. eskimobootycall

Tony, please don’t be full of shit for once

  18. NtBtFan

let the Suzuki-Bergeron comparisons roll! (potential internal salary cap)

  19. flepine44

I don’t trust Marinaro but if we get Caufield for 8 years at 7.5m or less that’s a fucking steal

  20. CanadianQuebecer

I refuse to believe it until I see it

  21. That’s the going rate for players like him, it’s not a “steal” until he proves it.

The fan in me loves that we keep him for 8 more years though.

  22. EasyPanicButton

so he is coming off a year where he spent 1/3 or 1/2 on the IL?

I think its a mistake to give him a bunch of years.

  23. I believe everything I just read, because it’s exactly what I want to hear.

  24. If Kent Hughes pulls this off, he is a wizard.

  25. Flubbies

Tony is an idiot, probably 10% of what he says is legit so take this with a grain of salt

  26. douce_abeille

Man, that would be so nice but this is the same guy that trusted Hockey30 as his source…

  27. k4mik4z32

I’d be excited if Tony was not full of shit.

  28. bcgrappler

Last year of Dach’s contract will be interesting.

If cole and nicknare under 16 mil, dach is 3.5. Will Smith or other would be 21, slaf 22.

If PLD agrees to 8 mil tops he can be part.

  29. Snoopy_021

‘I’m hearing’ always make me rather cynical. I don’t expect the goss to end until the signing is confirmed.

  30. facepollution5

Tony is connected to the Habs. This is established. Anyone saying otherwise is just a hater.

  31. Fundingforis6

Whether he signs 8 or 9m in QC is just a 500k difference for the player, which doesn’t rly matter when you’re already raking in 4m per year regardless. However, it does rly matter for the team’s cap structure if we get multiple players to sign for “cheap,” meaning that you’d have a better shot at winning the cup.

  32. Bohmer

If that’s true, why didn’t he signed earlier?

  33. astonedgecko

If he signs for 8 years at less than 8 my horn my spontaneously combust

  34. crissdecaliss

    Meh, c’est Marinaro hein

  35. imyourzer0

If he can lock in that money for 7-8 years based on the short time he’s been there, I say good for him. Having said that, if I were in his shoes, I could also see the wisdom in taking a short deal (like 2 years) for less money, and really go to bat hard for a long contract when the cap is fatter and he’s giving the Habs an option to buy out more UFA years

  36. Dank_Bubu

    If this is true

    COMMON KENT HUGHES W

  37. CorporateGamer

I will be honest, this is what fans wanted to hear but the source is Marinaro. I will wait till others report it as well
