CBJ Legend Kevin Connauton makes his return to Columbus

  2. austinD93

Glad to see the 2nd is a conditional at least. Still, overpay in my opinion

  3. Blair767

Columbus is getting Philly’s first round pick this year too? 7th overall?

  4. Make-The-Cut

    Wait, we’re getting Philly’s 2023 1st rounder? 7th overall?

Edit: we are not. For a second, I thought Jarmo had robbed Philly blind

  5. thepressconference

Whoever wrote this on the Blue Jackets website needs to really work on phrasing because this is difficult to read

  6. Provorov will help. What we sent for him was a lot.

I don’t even mind moving the picks, seems like we have a thousand of them among the thousand prospects we already have. And don’t mind Provorov the player. Just feel we missed on value.

    Am I understanding this wrong?

We got the Flyers’ first round pick (7th OA) and Provorov. Gave up the 22nd and our 2nd rounder?

  8. JunesDepartmentStore

I have a feeling we’re not done with major moves this off-season…

  9. steveslikewhoa

Jarmo is speedrunning his way out of my favor.

  10. ddottay

A first and a second is a bit much for this.

We seem to be betting on an idea that Provorov will do better with Babcock but still, I’d rather used the 22nd pick for someone else.

  11. EVF126

I feel like jarmo has something up his sleeve for the draft.

  12. thepressconference

    Flyers fleeced here honestly

  13. P-Rickles

Don’t forget 30% retained. That makes it a little easier to swallow.

  14. nevalost20

Am I the only one totally neutral on this trade?

Gonna copy paste my comment from the rumor post.

CBJ PR department has there hands full with these last few moves…

  17. r0ckdrummersrock

I havent followed Provvy in a while but last I knew he was actually a pretty solid D-man. Nothing amazing but a solid 2nd pair guy. This still hold true in peoples thoughts? What am I missing?

  18. Hand_of_Thrawn

    Z- Blankenburg
    Provorov- Jiricek
    Gudbranson- Mateychuk
    Christensen

Gives us the ability to move Peeke, Boq and Bean if possible.

Established vet with a young gun on every line. Just for an idea of what we could be looking at for the season.

By no means is this fully thought out by me lol just an idea. Picking up a vet to replace Gavi on the left hand side means we are set on the left. Right is gonna be pick your own adventure depending on draft trades and who ends up needing more time with the Monsters

  19. I think I like patient Jarmo more than win now Jarmo.

  20. anticbjartillerypod

I thought maybe it was an overpay but considering the salary retention piece of it, seems fair.

  21. SEND_ME_YOUR_CAULK

r/hockey has some weeeeeeird takes on this. Think I need a break from their antics

  22. Burrow2023MVP

Feel like people are over valuing the 22nd OA pick

  23. casperthegoth

Great. Babcock and an openly anti-gay player. Oof. We are trying to outdo the Browns.

  24. triforce28

Was ok with just the first. Do not like seeing the second round pick as well

  25. RonTugMyNuts

Remember when Toews was traded for two seconds. Must’ve been nice.

  26. brunus76

Well, we’re quickly shedding the lovable-losers persona. At least the lovable part. Jury is still out on the rest.

  27. EaglesAndCubsGoat

I get the need for a LD2 is big enough that it is worth paying too much for a not that good player, but uh we couldn’t have gotten someone who doesn’t bring a ton of negative attention around the team with them?

  28. SEND_ME_YOUR_CAULK

I think people are overvaluing draft picks in regards to this trade. You have to actually hit on the picks you get

  29. NontransferableApe

I’m fine with it. Let’s get a RD in FA and i’ll like how the offseason shook out. Should at least get us back to somewhat relevancy

  30. SEND_ME_YOUR_CAULK

I would have liked to have kept that 1st or 2nd, but this is how i’m interpreting the move:

I imagine after how badly last season went down and three bad seasons in a row, there’s probably some pressure from ownership to get back to playoffs or Jarmo’s done.

We get an upgrade on defense and a player who isn’t often injured. Put Provorov behind Werenski, and that’s a pretty good 1-2 on the left side. Provorov at only 70% for 2 years makes sense while we let some of our other prospects develop.

If Provorov returns to his play style and skill pre-COVID, we’re looking at a significantly better defense. If he DOESN’T, then it’s only for 2 years (unless we use him as deadline fodder) and it gives us time to let our D prospects develop. Also keep in mind that this season Provorov was playing with fucking Tony DeAngelo and Rasmus Ristolainen.

I would MUCH rather have acquired Provorov than Hayes. I don’t love this move but I get the logic. Jarmo’s probably betting his job on immediate improvement in the next two years bringing in Provorov and likely Babcock. If he misses, he’s out of a job. If it connects, then people will be back to singing his praise.

    This trade actually fucking sucks
