>The top 5 of 2023 go ahead of anyone from 2022
>Bedard, Fantilli, Michkov, Carlsson, and Smith (in that order)
>with David Reinbacher, Dalibor Dvorsky, Ryan Leonard, Gabe Perreault, and Zach Benson (in that order) mixed in with the top 10 or so picks from last year
we need to just come away with one of Michkov, Carlsson, or Smith, doesn’t matter who

With the direction we’re taking (after Cole’s extension), I REALLY think that Carlsson fits Kent Hughes’ vision of the team the most.
Sure, we won’t have a legitimate elite-talent forward, but that would also allow us to have a sustainable depth quality (literally 15M+ budget for the whole 3rd line).
It’s really a choice between building a team with better team depth (Carlsson) or relying on a high-end talent (Michkov) at this point. However, I don’t think either will be available at 5th, so we’ll probably end up with the middle ground (Smith) lol.

If we get Michkov, then in three years we have (probably) an elite RW who will transform our power play.
If we get Smith, then we are set for a long time at centre with him and Suzuki as 1A or 1B. Unless he has to move to the wing, in which case we hope Dach can be the guy at 2C.
If we get Leonard or Benson, we have at least an excellent middle six RW with an insane compete level and high skill.
Glad I don’t have to make the choice, I’ll be happy with any of these scenarios.
