    Saying that Nylander is a great playoff performer and Marner isn't is a myth that continues.

    So…. nylander scores more than tavares in a season, is alot more gifted with his skating and is a proven playoff performer?

    Nylander is going to want 9 or ten million easily and he will get that on the open market.

    If he signes for 8.5 it is a severely discounted flr the leafs and it signals he wants to win with the leafs.

    Playoffs performer's by the numbers
    Matthew's 22g 22a for 44pts and a 0+ – in 50 games.
    Marner 10g 37a for 47pts an a + 9 in 50 games.
    Nylander 17g 23a for 40pts an a – 1 in 50 games.
    For the amount they are getting paid, Willie is the best of the bunch. He kept up his end of the deal.
    To say Marner never showed up in the playoffs and leave Matthew's name out of it is just wrong.
    Marner has 3pts more than Matthew's in the playoffs while being a + 9. Matthew's has less points albeit just by three, but he's an even player, while Marner is a + 9.
    So why is it that anyone thinks he should get 13m plus?
    Let's just say McDavid and Matthew's were up for a new contract at the same time. One guy has, 22g 22a for 44pts in the playoffs in 50 games, while having an 0 + – rating. aka Matthew's
    The other has 29g 46a for 75pts and also has a + – rating of +16 in 49 playoff games.
    Who would you pay more for? The guy that has 31pts more in the playoffs and being a + 16 better than the other guy of course.
    Players love to use comparables when negotiating new contracts. I hope they don't forget to use this one.
    If Matthew's wouldn't sign for 13m x 8yrs, there's no way I'd sign him past two years, so I'd keep this comparable going.
    If he outperforms McDavid by then great, more power to ya, if not, then don't even think about asking for more than McDavid.

    Patrick roy you know when he was the coach in the nhl when he was down by 1 goal in the 3rd period he was the first coach to take the goalie out with over 2 mim to play, now all nhl coachs do it. .

    Only reason Mathews is not captain I'd because of underwear. They did not want a captain underpants on the team lol

    Keep the core together. Ride out JTs contract because at the end he'll sign a team friendly deal if anyone will. You CAN'T win a trade with these guys. Build them an aggressive, heavy checking team that will discourage playing heavy against the core. Give them a little shelter and watch them tear it up.

    Signing Mathews will make it possible to Finally trade Nylander for a “Real” #1 D man who hopefully isn’t 35+yrs old.
