As the Mecca of hockey and a special franchise the salary cap should never apply to Toronto. If these non traditional hockey markets can't survive, so what! Fold them and Toronto gets the pick of the litter of their best players. What's good for Toronto is good for everybody else!
Willie for josi would be ideal. I'm satisfied with the current goalie situation, not satisfied with the top 2 defensemen.
Let's not forget, if you trade a core four you may not get the better end of the trade but you do open up a ton of cap space.

I still say trade Matthews and keep Marner and Nylander. Use Matthews money to get some draft picks back and get at least a 30 goal scorer back and a solid dman. They can do so much more with this team if they don't throw away 12 or 13 million. Nylander is a keeper especially for 8 or 10 million. I believe he's the leafs best player..guy can handle the pressure and he can play Center with the right coaching and wing. He's more valuable to this team. Matthews will go to the US anyway. I can see him playing very well in a US market but he can't handle the pressure in playoffs here. Look at the stats.

I can’t see how the Panthers shut down four producing lines. That’s a problem. Vegas’ third and fourth line produce more than the Panther’s first and second lines. Try math, folks. Nothing is conducive with the Panthers winning a Cup.
