What are your thoughts on former Leafs GM Kyle Dubas signing a deal to become President of Hockey Operations for the Pittsburgh Penguins? 🐧
Dude on the right has a bromance with Kyle, Kyle is weak and you want strength in the office, once he realized his plan didn’t work he knew it would be a much harder job to fix & take scrutiny for his mistakes, so instead of owning up & fixing it he would only do so if he got overly payed & got more power, he took the easy money in Pittsburgh & less scrutiny over being a legend & making a comeback = weak
Finally he has a real Captain too work with
Dubas didn’t accomplish anything. He’s going to Pittsburg with only a aging top six and nothing else. Penguins are rated 29th in prospect pool and 20 million of cap room. He will grab some leaf guys.
Dubas DEFINITELY screwed the Leafs. First those ridiculous contracts to Matthews and Marner with NMC kicking in. Also Dubas had the deal with Pens in place so he made his pitch to Shanny and he bounced to Pittsburghand he’s President of Hockey Ops. He did Leaf Nation dirty!!!! You fanboys still like Kyle?
Dubas was a great AHL GM! Big leagues… way in over his head!

Ya he crippled this team. Dubas robbed this team of the identity it had when he took over. Imagine the Tavares acquisition doesn’t happen? Marner and Matthews sign for at least a mil less. Imagine if he paid out Marleau instead of giving up Seth Jarvis. Kadri trade sucked, Hyman being allowed to walk sucked, even the Muzzin trade has turned out sour. He inherited a playoff team and did shit to better it. If I give him one thing it’s he’s good and lessening the blow his shitty decisions make, Mrazek, Murray, Foligno (ouch) Malgin etc etc etc etc
As a Pens(1-a) fan since I was a kid and a leafs(1-b) fan since Matthews came to town, this couldn’t have worked out better IMO.
Kyle had an offer from shanny he was pleased then said to media not sure he well come back to stressful job may need a year off to reflect then his agent proposed new offer to shanny asking more money more power kyle said i'm coming back big gap shanny stab in back dubas your fired.
I’m from Pittsburgh, and I always said if I had tickets to the Penguins or the Steelers at the same time, I would choose the penguins. Of course the other people around here look at me like I have two heads.
Any organization ROTS from the Top down. The Leafs are an entitled me first woke organization. This is reflected in the way Dubas played the leafs and it is reflected in how the CORE 4 plays. The Leafs are a reflection of the OLD GM… they play soft and me first. Hence the results LEAFS have got
He did screw over the Leafs when he signed Tavaras. If the new guy doesn't trade 1 of the 4, it will be another disappointment
Kyle Dubas left because the Leaf's didn't win and rather than dig in and finish the job he seemed to set up a scenario where by the Leaf's have to fire him so he can go someplace where he doesn't have the pressure of Toronto. We will never really know what happened in Toronto but it's an unfinished job that he should have known about before he took the job. Five years I believe and the Leaf's didn't win anything so he didn't do the job.
He did what was best for him. With all the stuff coming out after his firing. He was clearly a lame duck GM with Shanny calling all the shots and slowing down the process.
The biggest loss for the Leafs is not him, but how many current MLSE leaf employees he will poach. Spezza walked and I wouldn't be surprised with Prenum ends up as GM in Pittsburgh. I also wouldn't be surprised with 1 or more of the young core ends up walking there. Since they all love him so much.
Yes Steelers are the clear number 1 team but make no mistake, Pittsburgh is a diehard hockey town. Great listen guys. I like the leafs a lot too. I was actually rooting for the leafs this playoffs. I’m excited to have Dubas on board and see what this new era of pens hockey brings. Wish yinz all the best.

How can you any respect for someone who says "I want to be the GM for Toronto or not at all. I can't put my family through more change" Which give you the impression that he would be just happy to be the GM under the current conditions. If that how he really felt, he wouldn't have turn around and ask for a better contract. Of course asking for a better contract was just way for Kyle to back track on what said before about being GM for Toronto or nothing at all. He knew he wouldn't a better offer from Toronto. I wouldn't want someone like that in my organization, Shanahan made the right decision. Shanahan, should have knock Dubas on his ass.
