Typically anytime a player hits someone else's stick out of their hands its called for slashing. I also think that's a bit weak but that's the precedent they've set. Stone also kicked the stick away which is usually an automatic interference call.
So I call see why the panthers fans were a little upset.

Panthers lack the depth necessary to win the Cup, and their frustration is clearly showing. Great goaltending, coupled with average defence and average offence, can take a team only so far. Depth wins the Cup, and the Panther’s look thin.
