2. First things first

Pierre Luc Dubois is not a 1C, he's a 2c, 50-60 point type of guy

Yes, Dubois has 1C potential, he plays with an edge & he's only 24. However, today he's not a 1C, he stinks on face-offs, he's lousy defensively & he has other warts too

Dubois is a malcontent that is trying to force his way off his second team in a very short amount of time and his compete level has been questioned by multiple coaches & teammates more than once

Then there's this whole he wants to play in Montreal thing when his contract expires and he's putting out vibes that he won't sign an extension to any team he is traded to

There's also this mess Don Sweeney has created called the Boston Bruins

    Only $5M in Cap Space
Only 7 forwards signed for 23-24
Still need to re-sign both their own RFA's in Swayman & Frederic
No 1c or 2c signed to the big club next year

And no neither Pavel Zacha nor Charlie Coyle is a a true 1c or even a 2c for that matter

Zacha failed as a 1c and 2c in NJ. It's why he was run out of town. Zacha succeeded in Boston because he was barely asked to play center (only when Bergeron got hurt) & he wasn't asked to be a leader or primary scorer either.

Zacha also played all 7 games in the post season- ZERO goals & he has a long history of being an extremely streaky scorer who goes on 10+ game scoring droughts fairly regularly. I'm sorry, that's not 1c or 2c material

Zacha succeeded as a wing here in Boston when he wasn't asked to play center, have the defensive responsibilities of the position, not take draws, not be a leader & not be asked to be a primary scorer

Those conditions 100% directly led to Zachq having his best year as a pro in Boston. So the idea is to now put him back in the position (1c or 2c, primary scorer & leader)?

Things that he failed at miserably in New Jersey to the degree where NJ fans ran him out of town and the Hockey News labeled him 8th on a list of all time NHL Drafts busts in the last decade back in 2019

Moving Zacha back to 1c or 2c while putting all that pressure on him to be a primary scorer and leader again has disaster written all over it

Coyle has been tried in the Top 6, more than once, by a few teams, including Boston. That experiment has failed every time. No need to try Coyle as a Top 6 center again when it's failed and he's proven he's the best fit for their 3c role

Like Zacha, every time Coyle has been asked to play in a Top 6 center role while also being both a primary scorer and leader, he's failed. Including in Boston already when they've tried him there

Also Boston doesn't even have the assets to trade for a 1c, 2c or any high talent, high cost player, Dubois included

    Proof?

    NHL's Worst Draft Capital:

-No 1st round pick again until 2025
-No 2nd round pick again until 2026
-Only 3 picks, in the top 3 rounds of the next 3 NHL Drafts, COMBINED!!!

One of the NHL's Worst Farm Systems:

-Universally ranked 28th-32nd by every major hockey publication and scouting service

-After Lysell & Lohrei, nothing but un-drafted guys, never will Bs and a whole lot of maybes that are 2-4+ years away

So Dubois is a malcontent that is now forcing his way off of his second team in short order and he's not a fit for the Bruins locker room on a number of leaves

He also wants a $9M AAV on a new contract, which the Bruins obviously can't afford. Additionally Dubois says he doesn't want to sign an extension if traded this off-season and has his eyes set on playing for Montreal in 2024-25 when he becomes a free agent next summer

And then there's Boston's side of it:

    -No Salary Cap
    -No Draft Picks
    -Crap Farm System
-Inability to sweeten any deal with picks, prospects or Cap Space

So I think it's a fairly safe to say that Pierre Luc Dubois isn't getting traded to Boston anytime soon

As for prospects going in any trade for a 1c, 2c or anything else…

The Bruins don't have any real center prospects & after Lysell and Lohrei, there isn't much at all any GM would trade anything of value for

No NHL team values un-drafted players like Merkulov in any trade that haven't played even played shift in the NHL

Beecher, um, I'm not sure Boston thinks he's a real prospect any more. Zero trade value

Harrison- Not a center at the NHL level. Poor skater, Not great defensively. Likely a wing in the NHL if and when he makes it

Poitras- When drafted many scouts said he wouldn't even make the NHL. However, he did have a great year in juniors last year and he is now showing promise. Still, he's 3-4 years away at best & no other NHL team would view Poitras as a blue chip prospect. Poitras would be labeled a B tier prospect, at best, that was a C- level prospect just a season ago. He has promise but he's not a very valuable trade chip as it stands today

Again, the only prospects Boston has anyone would give anything for: Lysell, Lohrei and maybe Brandon Bussi. That's it

There's a reason that Boston's Farm System is ranked 32nd and dead last by more than few reputable hockey outlets. It's Lysell, Lohrei and then a MASSIVE DROP-OFF

With no draft capital for the next three years, pissing away more of the their prospects, which amounts to Lysell and Lohrei, probably wouldn't be all that smart of decision either right now

Unless that is, a true 1c is coming back in return in any trade. And as we've been over here, no 1c or 2c is getting traded to Boston any time soon
