Trade Luka/Kyrie and do a full rebuild at this point. Mavs dont have the assets to do much and still have contracts tied up, plus the new CBA limits their options.
They tried and failed with Luka and they just don't have what it takes to close the gap with a team like Nuggets.
Thats why drafting is so important. Mavs aren't the Lakers, they cant just sign big name free agents. You need to build from the ground up like the Nuggets did.
Draft Derrick Lively. Resign Woods. Add a couple of defensive players. Resign Kyrie. Let's start there.

I gotta weird question because I was watching the finals andddd… it didn’t look like the heat were trying to hard…barely fighting through screens barely trying to score. It’s crazy bc lebron won his first title in 2016 for the cavaliers right, I’m from Ohio the area code they’re is 216. Then he won on June 21st, can be written as 21/6. Then Kobe, he walked off the court at 4.1 seconds last shot over number 41 and then died at 41. I think it can be done! But it’s going to take some luck. A somewhat realistic/ideal off season:
Step 1: Re-sign Kyrie
Step 2: Trade McGee and 10 to the warriors for Kuminga and 19
Step 3: Trade THJ, the 19th pick and the 2027 first for Jarret Allen
Step 4: Coerce Grant Williams into signing with us by offering him an early access pair of the new Jordan Luka 2 sneakers. (He’s a restricted free agent this off season and depending on Boston’s cap situation they may not be able to match our offer. I think he’s really underrated and I know he really likes Luka)
If everything goes according to plan we’d have a 9 man rotation consisting of: Luka, Kyrie, Reggie, Maxi, Josh, Hardy, Allen, Kuminga, and Grant Williams. Those probably aren’t the most optimal choices but it’s just one example of something we could do.
Can we swap 10 for 13 from Toronto, give 2027 first round unprotected, S&T C Wood n McGee.. for OG Anunoby n pick Derrick Lively
We won’t come out of the West without a decent stretch/defensive C (doesn’t have to be a star).

dont get me wrong, i love kyrie, but we already had the pieces (brunson/dfs) and we let them go! we just needed to upgrade on powell and they couldn't even do that! now we have to start all over again, smh. but yeah, rim protection is definitely our number one biggest need, imo.

Kyrie is no longer the 2nd guy on a Championship team. He's proven that year in and year out since he left Cleveland. Injury-prone, controversy-prone, non-factor in the Playoffs. He's good for regular season highlights and that's it. He belongs on a team that needs a 'star'- he's Beal, he's Dressbrick, he's KAT, he's DeRozan. Dallas gave up pieces more akin to team success. That's just the sad reality.

I wish Nick and Isaac would interview a former GM and interview him what he would do to fix the Mavs roster knowing the assets they have. I think it would be a good episode. 🙂

Mavs should hire a good astrologer to help find the best players for their team. Without that, it's like looking for such a player with your eyes closed. Especially when you have 1 of 3 prospects to choose from in the draft…
I love you guys and the show. But my confidence is really low. Maybe a 0.5. Too many holes to fill to get the defence on an decent level. Not enough assets to outbid rivals to bring in guys like Turner, Allen or Anunoby.
I dont know if guys like Capela, Kyle Anderson or Vanderbuild are moving the needle enough.

Sell Kyrie. Get Luka a Solid team. Stars don’t matter, continuity and chemistry does. We ruined all our continuity with that one trade. Kyrie is a great player but we can’t have 2 batmans. Get a solid centre, great 3 & d guys, a solid back up point guard and watch Luka take the league by storm.
