Hoff and Armia yes, you can’t do Gally dirty like that. As much as I hate that contract, he earned every penny.

Are we really that desperate to clear cap space? Is there urgency to make room on the roster? I’m getting really anxious here waiting for this off-season to get into gear

I’d be surprised if Kent bought anyone out, he doesn’t need the cap space this year, he needs it next year when it’s time to add talent around the young core.

People are shitting on Gallagher like he won’t end up exactly like Lupul or something. Give him another year and this guy won’t even be able to get out of bed because of back pain.

He got 99,99999% chances to be LTIretired

  5. FBR_MC

Gallagher would fuck us over for 4 years after his contract is done, it’d make absolutely no sense.

  6. Buying out Gallagher is like signing a 3M player for 8 years and then never having play a game ever.

  7. Quasihodor

Armia makes a lot of sense.

Hoffman is actually not super terrible as everyone makes him out to be and could still raise his stock and have value.

    Gallagher makes no sense.

IF Gally gets bought out it’ll be in the last couple of years of his deal and even there I think he becomes our Foligno in Minny, overpaid fourth liner that is the heart of the team. Cap is about to go up substaintially so his contract will get lighter every year.

Armia is likely out next year and Hoffman likely gets dealt to a contender as a depth piece just like Dadonov was (And see what happened) for a small return on a boom or likely bust player. A guy like Lucas Johansen or Kole Lind. Buyouts aren’t something the team should look at right now.

Why would anyone want us to buyout a player this year. It’s not like we’re competing. Gally is a shell of himself but he’s still good in the locker room and buying him out would be brutal. Just wait for LTIRetiement. For Hoffman just wait it out he only has one more year. Armia only has two left so I’d wait that out to or at worst buy him out after next year so it’s only two more years on the books.

Bergevin really messed up Gallagher’s contract. He’s getting paid $8M and $9M salary over the next two years making him un-tradeable to a team looking to reach the cap floor. Most contracts are front loaded for a reason. But for some reason, Bergevin decides to underpay Gallagher in year 1 and then overpay him in years 3 & 4. And no signing bonuses either so you can’t trade him after a bonus has been paid out. A really really bad deal when factoring all the terms not just the 6x$6.5M cap hit.

  11. JourneyToArcana

Zero reason to buy out Gallagher when: 1) there’s no need to add any UFAs, 2) he’s got a ton of contract left and 3) he’s likely to be an LTIR candidate within 2-3 years, right around the time that the team will need the extra cap. I wouldn’t buy out anyone with more than 2 years left.

  12. Thaddeauz

Seriously, buyout are rarely worth it.

  13. zionistmilly

Gally still has some hockey in him mark my words

  14. CorporateGamer

Gallagher will never be bought out. I am nir as negative as others on his contract and buying it out would be another Karl Alzner, which this year is the last year we pay him!

  15. DivinePotatoe

And i’m willing to bet on 0 buyouts by the Habs. None of them would make sense to buyout when we’re still rebuilding. Maybe in 1-2 years you’d look at Gallagher but that’s it.
