Dans notre segment d’ouverture, Donnie et Rick ont expliqué pourquoi les Canucks ont racheté OEL et ce qu’ils prévoient de faire avec le nouvel espace de casquette trouvé.
It HAD to happen, but it sucks for our long-term success. Only possible miracle will be a huge increase in the cap, but even then, we'll be one or two good players down from other teams because of it. Not the end of the world, of course, if the right decisions are made going forward. Just gotta hope for the best! Maybe something good can come from all this.
It had to happen. No way you could Give up our Small limits in prospects. Because we're gonna need them to be on there elcs To be a playoff and hopefully a contender.
Hopefully with what 18-19 months of learning the value of cap space, the management and owners should now realize that weaponized cap space will get you every player you desire without over paying on July 1 on free agents that are hardly free and actually cost way more than taking good players off cap strapped teams. They listened to those of us that suggested buying out OEL was the least painful method of getting cap space and improving the team. The shoe is on the other foot now and Canucks can now make some steal of a deal in their favour rather than getting raped by their lack of cap space. Hopefully the owners are still listening to rational people like us and take advantage of their now really good position, rather than going out on July 1 and blowing their wad on a wild miscalculated deal. Cap is king.
True club cover up. OEL has hurt for long time. He is not reason of Canucks FU,same is going to be with Miller. Club has tomany dogs in upper management.
I'm not sure how to feel about this situation. I totally agree with Rick it had to be done but I'm truly bracing for them to just spend it again on a terrible contract. I'm a battered victim at this point & only expect bad things when it comes to the Canucks.
When OEL had a reason to play hard, he was fine. The boudreau run is my memory. When the team is sucking he had 0 effort. I don't think it reflects on his 'ability' but his work ethic. I can't hold that against him when the team goes 0-7 and the captain signing is the drama at the start of the season.
IMO buyout is a huge mistake that can get WORSE. Hold OEL for 1 more year, and if he sucked then buyout with more reasonable penalty was the right move
Im hoping its more for flexibility in making hockey trades. Boston needs to shed salary. Brandon Carlo is probably available. His cap hit is under 5m and Boston will have to sweeten the pot to offload him. Hes 25, right handed, solid defensive defenseman. Can play PK. Seems like a smarter move.

They were probably getting low ball offers for all the trades they were trying to make.
Man Rick can be really annoying.

Vancouver Canucks are going the wrong way
Over paying for subpar players
The locker room. Play half the season coast the other
14 months is down the road? That's the kind of foresight that got this organization in the predicament it's in.
I hate long term contracts 5-6 years should be the maximum

I wonder how this team would look today if Trevor was allowed to do a proper rebuild.
I like this move it was smart chess play
you know they are gonna spend all this money on reclamation project wingers and huge resignings for overrated current players
If the focus is July 1, this organization hasn't learned a thing. They are run by doofuses.
Donnie is right, it is quite frightening if Allvin will throw away all the cap just free up on long contract FA on Jul1
Canucks owners and management are stupid. They will blow their new found cap space on some over rated hack on july 1st.

The bleeding never ends..
You guys are acting like OEL kept us out of the playoffs
. The relief for NOW is not worth the 4.7mil hits in the future.
This was a move for a team on the verge of WINNING IT ALL, not scrapping to make the playoffs

Funny to think if they bought out L.Erickson those years ago, maybe keep tanev and toffoli, and never buyout OEL
sign UFA's barbashev [C/LW] & clifton [RD]
Use that monet to lock up petty. I feel the Canucks are going to fuck this up on July 1

Rick is right
