It’s easy for Button to say look how the Panthers traded Jonathan Huberdeau for Matthew Tkachuk and went to the Stanley Cup Final. The one thing he forgot is how the Panthers only made the playoffs this past season because Pittsburgh lost their last two games against Chicago and Columbus. Plus no one predicted the Panthers would have made the Finals or even defeat Boston in the 1st round.

    Sure!

We all love the early playoff exits. Fucking run it back forever so this goddamn sub can invent new excuses every year

No it needs to be broken up. We’ve changed the GM and coach. We’ve done so much with the bottom of our roster over the years, making them as good as they can be.

We’ve touched everything but the top 4 guys, and they are the constantly inconsistent. We don’t expect the bottom 6 to carry the load.

One of them has to go.

    Willie yes absolutely.

JT is a negative asset at this point. We knew we were getting a few good years going into that contract, and now not so much. It is what it is. We paid for what we got. No regrets imo.

AM 34: It all comes down to if the teams’ medical staff believe his wrist issue is chronic. If they believe it is you unload him for a haul and a half. I would liken this to when the leafs traded wendel. His back was toast and we got 1 of our best players ever out of that deal.

Mitch? I’m entertaining offers but **only** if it is to our benefit with *significant* assets coming back. I don’t like his me 1st attitude but there is no denying the guy is an incredible playmaker.

NO. But you’re off your rocker if you think trading Matthews or Mitch is a good idea. And JT has a NMC, so……..

One of Marner or Matthews gets the Leafs the greatest return and a significant amount of cap space to re-tool on the fly both on right side D and top 6 for a better chance at going deep in the playoffs.

I’d love to see it happen but this sub has somehow forgotten what the playoffs has looked like over the last 7 years and/or are simply satisfied with regular season stat pumping and early playoff exits.

Im going with no but I think we need a coaching change. The reason Im going with no is the one I think needs to be traded the most is JT. Simply due to age he is the one whose contract is least worthy at this point. That said his contract comes off the books in 2 seasons and the other 3 will still be a strong points in their careers.
That said I do think you listen to offers and I would be ok with moving Willy or Marner for a bonafide #1 defence man. Short of that I have never like the idea of making a trade for the sake of making a trade. I have long been an advocate that this team needs a defensive overhaul. I think that needs to be the priority while allowing some Marlies players the opportunity to fill out forward gaps

Does it need to be broken up possibly. But also who do we trade with? This isn’t the Tkachuk/Huberdeau situation. There is no possible trade we make that we can win or even feel was a fair trade, barring an overpay. Hell what we need is a Top 2 defenseman and possibly a Goalie depending on how your perceive Sammy/Woll.

The question is who is available? Hanafin is basically Reilly and we already lambast the hell out of him, imagine if we had another. Vancouver would rather see hell freeze over than even entertain moving Hughes. The options are less than limited, they’re borderline non-existent.

To answer your question, yes I think we need to change it up. But I don’t want us to blow up this team for no reason, that’s how we end up back in the same hamster wheel of 2005-2015.

idk about any of you, but I refuse to ever go back to how it was during the JFJ days. I’m thankful I wasn’t a fan during Nonis or Burke.

  9. SnooHesitations1965

No. Marner can go and bring a return of more depth and spread out the scoring. Plus a pick or prospect thanks.

  10. purple_parachute_guy

Tavares isn’t going anywhere. He’s still good, has nmc, and is the captain.

Reilly/Nylander not going anywhere as they are on good deals.

Manner is slightly overpaid but absolutely brings it and performed decently enough in the playoffs and bound to get better. As a Canadian he’s likely happy to be a lifelong leaf and could potentially outplay his next contract if it’s reasonable.

Matthews…on paper makes the most sense to ship out to get a return on, as he is the most likely to not stay longterm, has iffy injury history, and seems to lag in the playoffs and will get overpaid on his next contract. BUT, from a marketing perspective (which matters a lot to the owners), you don’t do this unless you know 100% he is not resigning.

Really tough spot to be in.

I’ll answer to trading one of the four individually.

    No.

    No.

    No.

    And no.

Go enjoy your summers, this speculation shit is ridiculously stupid and not one person important enough for these decisions is thinking this. Simple media pandering during the dog days.
