  1. I honestly wish they would get rid of most theme nights altogether except hockey fight cancer or other diseases. Military, Pride, Faith, etc nights are all dumb.

  2. This is how it should've been in the first place, now you won't have people bringing politics in the game in the context of accusation. But you'll still have the theme nights to raise awareness, I completely support this decision and think it's a great move

  3. If the warmup jerasys get converted from auctioned off "worn" to retail then it'll be a happy coincidence.

  4. I don’t care about the warm up jerseys being worn, I think it’s better to just auction them off to donate to charity and at least they are still being sold retail for people who love them

  5. We can thank sportnet and the other wonderful crews that cover our wonderful who had just HAD TO ALWAYS POINT OUT WHOS “NOT” wearing them instead of speaking about what the jerseys are about … “bReAkInG nEwS, San Jose goalies isn’t wearing his…” like who cares ! You fumbled it, they all did, I’m not a member of the lgbt+ community but I support everyone, and those Calgary flames First Nation rec. jerseys were incredible! And the Chinese new years one! Thanks Media ! This one’s your fault I swear

  6. Just get it over with and move the Flames back to Atlanta already. We all know Gary's licking his chops at the thought.

  7. Not a surprise. One theme is great for some, not good for others. To avoid this issue, the NHL was smart to just scrap all of it.
You can’t please everyone, so it’s better to just please no one.

If you have a theme you like, just buy that jersey and rock it at the game.
    Easy.

Great video, Shannon. You always handle the news with the utmost professionalism.😎

  8. Can’t say I’m saddened by the no lqjdhtq jerseys

  9. Good grief, what is possibly wrong with the arena Ottawa plays in now? Teams are like cell phone manufacturers. Always wanting a new building every year. Puh-lease

  10. Please let that mean that there will be no more rainbow bullshit jerseys. It's the embarrassment of the league. Have sex with who you choose to, but shining a light on who you have sex with at a hockey game out of all places, is quite simply insane. NO MORE!

  11. I wonder if there is any connection between the NHL stopping theme jerseys (to include pride) and the Qatar soveriegn buying a part of the Caps….

  12. Theme nights are what they are. I’m glad the warm up jerseys and the negative bullshit put on those choosing not to wear them, are gone. If this is all about inclusion, forcing people to participate kinda defeats that purpose.

  13. Saudi and Qatar are trying to sportswash their reputations as human rights violators. Both countries are horrific places and their money should be avoided at all costs.

  14. Leafs and Canucks both had incredible Indigenous Night jerseys last season and hopefully they will continue those next year even if only for retail (which it was too bad they didn't have them for retail–aside from auction–already)

  15. It's like when you were in school. All but one of the kids was acting respectfully so the teacher lectures the whole class.

  16. Too bad nhl didn't drop their divisive specialty nights. Politics in hockey is a horrible idea.

  17. I really don't get why we can't help everyone feel included? There are a lot of die hard hockey fans in my life who appreciated the visibility of specialty jerseys (plus other related initiatives), because they never felt fully accepted by hockey culture. That might be surprising to a lot of NHL fans, but yes, there are people who do not feel included. This move is just confirming that they are not. We need to stop appeasing bigotry and hate. People who insist on being exclusionary are the reason we can't have nice things.

  18. B.S. on the warm up jerseys thing. it's just a way to avoid the bad press of homophobic players refusing to wear jerseys so they can sell the league to LGBT people and bigots alike

  19. If the LGTB are going to label Christian players as racists and biased because they refuse to wear the pride shirt, I am all for the ban on them!

  20. Get rid of the silly jerseys that have no place on the backs of NHL players. They are not billboards.
This especially true of "the cause" jerseys. And even though McDavid said it was the right thing to do, I doubt he or most players who wore the stupid things even know what "the cause" is. I personally think the cause is about brainwashing our kids and getting them as confused as possible. It's also about infiltrating sports, schools, churches, businesses, you name it. And here's something else you can take to the bank. That community represents around 1% of the 334 million in this country … it's the news that wants you to think they're more than that.

  21. It’s not “all is was”. If a player didn’t want to buy a themed jersey, Pride in particular, the player was hammered on social media. Nobody wants nonsense thrown down their throats. Why is this so complicated, oh I know. The Pride Mafia.

I’m all for the Pride events as a volunteer expression

  22. It’s amazing that the people who are furious that teams had pride jerseys are the same people that are furious when someone says Happy Holidays.

  23. I think getting rid of the compelled wearing of the themed jerseys by the players is about the happiest medium they could've done. I think most players that had an issue with them felt that being forced to put the symbolism on their bodies was the threshold of going too far. Most people understand that others may have a differing opinion than them and they obviously need to be okay with that for the sake of harmony but what one puts on their body has always had meaning and that spans across all world cultures.

  24. Good for Joey Anderson. I liked him when he was on the Devils but the trade for Johnsson made sense. And Johnsson helped the Devils get Meier. So there's that.
