“You mentioned Detroit a second ago, Alex Debrincat it sounds like that’s the destination here, if they can get that one done.”
Plz
let’s go
Let’s fucking go
That’s one of the more affirmative statements I’ve heard about a potential Wings move, especially here in a situation where a lot of rumors have been floating around. Now there’s a good chance he forgot or omitted an important word or so, but it’ll be interesting to see what happens.
There’s two huge variables here, and if either of them are wrong then we shouldn’t make this trade.
First, price of the trade. His value is maybe half of what it was leaving Chicago because there’s no term and he had a down year. Of course, nobody wants to sell low, so Ottawa wants to sell at as close to full price as possible, especially within division. If they don’t come way down, then let them sort their own house out and see if we can’t get him as a UFA. The one year is not worth it.
Second, the contract. Cat is not worth the 9 million qualifying offer he is due. And that one year is the only guarantee we have if we make this trade. Unless he will take a value contract, somewhere in the high 7 at the very worst, then I just don’t know that he is worth it even if he were coming as a UFA. Because just like you don’t want to give up too much in a trade, you don’t want to give up too much cap space for future signings (Mo, Raymond, space for UFAs when we’re pushing from Playoffs to Contender status).
And from news (or at least the random speculative tweets that pass as news), it looks like neither variable wants to play along with us. Ottawa wants a bigger trade, and Cat is looking for a major payday and has no reason to budge from 9 mil since either you pay him that or he becomes a UFA. Would love him on the team, but not at these prices, there will be kids of similar talent available at 9 and maybe even 17, and they’ll be cost controlled for years.
Just remember he’s 25 I’m assuming 26 soon. So his age fits our time line as long as your prosepects develop as expected. We desperately need goal scoring especially since losing Bertuzzi and Vrana .
Not only that but he’s remained very healthy. So we don’t have to worry about another injury prone player. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. If any prospect we have you said at 25 he’d be a 30-40 goal scorer with reliable health I think we’d be very happy.
He’s small and that sucks because we desperately need to get bigger and tougher but from what I’ve read he still plays a slightly feisty game, gets in front of the net and doesn’t back down from anyone.
We can’t just dress and pile up 100 prospects, they’re not all gonna turn out. It’s time to do something different and take a chance.
I’d trade number 17 a player like Veleno/Zadina and a second since we have three.
Or number 17 and maybe a prospect like Berggren but no other draft pick . Just those two
I just don’t want to see an overpayment to a team we’re gonna be peaking at parallel times in our own division.
Here kitty kitty
This is making me worried we are rooting to get a player that won’t be able to live up to his contract. I’ll take a 30 goal scorer but I’m not giving up anything over a second rounder and nothing over 6m with term.
Reasons:
I just feel this isn’t going to make us a contender and no reason to throw money at a player that would be a nice piece but will be pushing 30 when we are closer to a 3/4 in the standings
Neither of this year’s first round picks in the deal, and then hometown discount or he can kick rocks.
