I have no idea who this kid is, but he sure has a hockey player name.
Apparently the 51 ranked skater in NA coming into the draft. That seems like more than a bit of a reach.
He is the 64th ranked player on a consensus of McKenzie, Wheeler, Pronman, Button and others.

Knights season ticket holder here. Cowan is a perfect complement to star players. Gets in the gritty areas and has high compete level. Good amount of skill for his role. Personally I think he’s a better prospect than bonk for guys from London.

Seems like a Fraser Mitten style pick again. Decent skills guy that is good both ways and picked up his game in the playoffs before being drafted.

As others have mentioned, it’s going to be a few years until we know if this is a good pick. The worst takes happen on draft night. (Edit: lots of people hated the Knies pick, for instance)
Not a fan of Treliving at all so far.
Keeping Keefe, signed Kampfe for way too much for way too long for someone with 0 ability to drive play and now picks someone ranked in the 3rd round at 27.
Obviously its extraordinarily early but I was expecting meh and so far it tracks far too well.
Looking forward to coming back to this thread in 6 years to see all the people who wrote Beaston Cowan off based on where he was sitting in the arena. You’ve never heard of him before today, I’ve never heard of him before today, but he’s a Toronto Fucking Maple Leaf and he’s got my backing until he’s proved he doesn’t deserve it, not the other way around.
Feels like they wanted to trade down but when they couldn’t find a partner they just took their guy anyways knowing he wouldn’t be there for their next pick. Sure hope they know something nobody else seems to.
The Hockey Writers scout profile on him made comparisons to Cowan and Brayden Point in terms of play style. If Cowan can turn into a Point esqe player for this team then I see this as an absolute W even though it’s risky

Could be great, could be nothing. Consensus is that it’s a reach to take him here but maybe in 3-4 years it seems genius.
I don’t really care because it’s not like you’re getting an immediate impact NHL player with this pick regardless. I’ll give it the time to see how he pans out before I get mad about it.

I am so excited they picked Cowan.
I watch a ton of the Knights, so I know the 3 Knights prospects (Bonk, Cowan & Barkey) way better than the other players in this draft, so take this with a grain of salt.
Cowan is exactly what every single fan wants in a Leaf. His compete and drive to win is higher than anyone I have watched in Jr.
He never gives less than 100%, is always in the middle of the scrums and doesnt take any shit, and most importantly he hates to lose. He excelled in the playoffs and is on the young end of this draft.
For people not following him leading up to the draft, he actually was playing wing mostly down the stretch despite being listed only as a C, and coming off his strong playoffs he was one of the top performers at the draft combine.
This guy will be a fan favorite before you know it.
I’m jealous that the Preds got Molendyk.
Also if the Preds drafted a Dman, he’s gonna be good.
