  1. Great show DK! The Jarry deal was the best possible option. Going after Ullmark or Helleybuck would've cost us too much. Other than those two – Jarry was a better option than anyone else. If you are all in to try to win a cup in the next two years – who would be a better option than Jarry? A better backup will help Jarry. Yes, it is a bet but I think this has Sully's fingerprints all over this. The term probably had to do with other bidders and the AAV is number #12 among other goalies which is fine. Jarry is a stand-up guy and he is still one that can continue to improve.

  2. I am with you on Eller! The non-melancholy Dane! An upgrade at #3 center. A great two-way character player. You are also right that he will be strong on the PK. So what did Dubus do? Long-term: He kept the #1 draft pick and picked up 3 or 4 guys for the AHL. This is super helpful for the long-term. Short-term: Dubus said it was win-now and all of the rest of the moves are win-now. What an infusion? 11 new contracts into the system! The core is still the same and there's still time to deal with Petry, Granlund, Ruuta, and of course the great and beloved Jeff C.!!! 80 days or so to go until camp so look for 4-5 more moves!

  3. Jarry will be better because this team is being built with an actual plan unlike last year.

  4. For me the Jarry issue is simple: Who were the alternatives who were better? Ullmark or Helleybuck were the only upgrades possible. I disagree with you that DeSmith is better than Ned. You are right that Ned's stats in Detroit (horrible -D) were horrific but his stats in Carolina (.922-ish and .932-ish) in their great system were great! Yes, Jarry is definetly tradable if needed! Great take on that – thanks for your common sense about it not being a problem moving on from Jarry if they need to.

  5. I like these moves. Jarry was the best available goalie, especially for the price (and I was also hoping for goaltending change, but realistically, there wasn't many viable options). Would you rather jarry or Murray?
I have a good feeling about Lars as well, but I think people are still shell shocked about how Carter has unraveled. Glad we sured up the pk and the defensive end of our bottom six. This makes us harder to play against and should allow us to close out games better. Plus I like smith as the zucker replacement. He should do well here.

  6. A lot being made of Karlsson but I can't see that due to salary and term. I can see Carolina shipping Pesce and prospects to SJS for Karlsson. If that happens I would think SJS look to ship Pesce out. Could you see something happening with the Pens working a trade that sends Petry, a prospect like Poulin, and a pick out for Pesce?

  7. Let's just hope Jarry realizes the faith (misplaced or not) that Sullivan has in him and plays like a goalie deserving of at least what this contract says he is, because if they are only a month into the season, and people are unhappy with his performance, those boos that will be raining down won't be for him, but the person who backed his signing. There's no Hextall to blame anymore, and Dubas will still be new enough that he hasn't yet figured out the best commute to beat the traffic to the arena. This and a lot of things with this team that have remained constant through three GM's now will be a direct reflection moving forward of Sullivan and his influence on roster decisions. Regardless of the FO personal, this is either Sullivan's fix, or his mess. You know why there hasn't been a GM hired or even hinted at yet? Because they already have one in Sullivan. Whoever eventually does get hired will be a token GM in title only who will cater to the whims of Sullivan and Dubas. A glorified button pusher.

  8. Why did my other comment get autodeleted? Wasnt swearing and didnt link anything…god I hate social media

  9. BTW: No talk of Granlund's status? Are we now happy with him staying on? The consensus talk that he would be bought out fell on deaf ears with Dubas, and now that's ok with everyone? Isn't $5 mill a year and another $3.1 mil a year in Carter too much for 3rd, let alone 4th liners? Especially for one who's skills don't fit the requirements that those bottom 6 roles generally denote, and another too old to do more than take a face off and head to the bench? Let's hope there's much more to be done, like packaging Granlund and Petry to a team for another also burdensome contract that is actually a fit for what the Penguins could use. It's not the recent additions that I have a problem with, it's the players that are still here that need to go.
