DeBrincat’s agent says he hasn’t been allowed to discuss contract terms with any potential teams

    From The Athletic:

After a headline in Postmedia stated, “Alex DeBrincat’s contract demands holding up trade from Ottawa Senators,” Jackson called the report “entirely false and without merit” in a text message to The Athletic.

Jackson wanted to clarify the circumstances around his client, which he believes has been mischaracterized in recent media reports.

“As far as I have been advised, there has been no agreement of any kind on an actual trade involving Alex and I would require that before entering into an actual negotiation,” wrote Jackson. “We are waiting patiently for that to happen.”

And when it comes to the notion that DeBrincat and his agent are acting as a barrier to the sniper’s own trade out of Ottawa, Jackson was very pointed in his assessment of the situation.

“Agents and players don’t make trades … that’s the GM’s job,” wrote Jackson.

This is about to turn ugly for dorion. Who knew leaking every piece of info to the media was a bad idea? Now you alienated debrincat cause of it.

This is honestly starting to turn into an embarrassment. Makes me really appreciate that Steve and co don’t try to use the media like this.

So I’m seeing two sides of this.

Ottawa is clearly annoyed and trying to get whatever they can out of this – it’s quickly looking like ADB has significant control over where/when he goes which limits that.

ADB’s agent clearly overplayed their hand with the list. Only three teams were interested, and none of them wanted to give the term ADB wanted so that didn’t work.

This leads me to believe he takes an arbitration deal and tries the water as a UFA next season when the cap goes up.

Teams just aren’t spending long term money right now.

So am I right to infer basically the trade to bring him here was done. They just had to negotiate the contract before they pulled the trigger… and Dorian wouldn’t allow this for….. reasons?

Or is that not what is happening

I don’t see how DeBrincat is emerging as the bad guy in all of this for so many fans. The facts are:

    1) ADB didn’t ask to be traded to Ottawa. They decided to do that on their own.

    2) ADB did not ask Ottawa for a trade. All he said is that he’s not opening to re-sign long term in Ottawa, which is rightfully his choice to make.

    3) ADB is under no obligation to help Ottawa maximize the return for him. That’s their problem. His focus should be solely aimed at putting himself in a situation where he can have a great year so he can maximize his value next year.

    4) If you look at Ottawa’s cap situation, they wouldn’t have been able to re-sign ADB long term anyway while preserving any semblance of depth. They need to re-up Pinto this year and Sanderson next year, plus hire another few 3rd and 4th line forwards, depth D, and a backup goalie, and they’ll have at most $20M to do it. What the hell was the plan here anyway?

For the record, I’m not really sold on ADB for the Red Wings.. just sticking up for the guy because there are a lot of bad takes floating around.
