Here come all the people who are Chronically Too Online™️ with their Pepe Silva conspiracy boards saying that Cates doesn’t actually want to be here.

Just pay Noah what he wants before he’s worth wayyyyy more

Probably should try and avoid the arbitration hearing. Never good when a team has to explain in front of a player why they aren’t as good as what they think they’re worth.

Who cares. He’s not some core piece of the future team. Lol. Let him ask for what he wants. None of this shit matters and it’s wild when people read into this like it’s a big deal.

Good for him, he had a hell of a year and he knows the team loves what he brings. Can’t imagine the arbitrator is going to give him way more anyway. Not like he’s going to get priced out of town.

If I’m guessing where this ends it will probably be around $4-4.5 mil a year. Mikael Backlund is a likely comparable, he was an RFA after his first 39 point season (he also had an injury shortened season where he was just over .5 ppg) and his cap hit was 5.18% of the cap. 5.18% of 83.5 is 4.32. We may see the number go higher with expectation that the cap goes up, or we may see a one year so Cates can cash after the cap goes up.

He was essentially our 1C last season, was used in every situation, and had his tires pumped beyond belief by Emperor Torts. Have to assume they will come to an agreement before the hearing, which happens often (Laughton went through this process a few years ago).

I don’t know much about arbitration. Who is the judge and how do they decide?

Guy got Selke votes as a rookie. Lock him up for 5-6 years and I think that contract will age very well. Big fan of Noah Cates and his game
