@Red Wings de Détroit

How far away is “not that far”

This whole thing is exhausting, exciting that he wants to be here though

  2. dilypucks

At this point I’m just assuming it’s not going to happen

  3. ParksandRec69

Who do y’all think will be the roster player they get back? It has to be Kubalik or Berggren right?

  4. schoobie_thomps

This saga will be the death of me.

Ottawa needs to find who’s leaking all this info. Someone should lose their job over this.

  7. It’s cool to be in a situation in which your young prospects are treated like gold, but also a little scary when they might be on the trading block.

I can understand why this is taking so long If the sens are shooting for edvinsson, Kasper, or bergerboy (I have no idea what negotiations look like) – but that would be too much imo – why ship out the younglings when debrinkat is ufa next season – and hopefully that’s partially yzermans view as well.

Let’s get a PPG winger in his prime and give up only scraps to get him (only kidding, it’s gonna hurt a little bit but he’s better than almost everyone we have on the roster or in the pipeline).

More I look at his stats I mentally start negging the guy… why is this my instinct? -31 on a good team, only 5’8… we want him right?

  9. Attila_the_Chungus

What the hell does Zadina have to do with it? Does he think we’re offering a $10M/year contract or something?

not going to lie, pretty excited about this potentially happening. You add him as a cherry on top + the around the margins moves we made and thats a really nice offseason.

  12. YellowShorts

Blah blah blah. Unless there’s an actual update, I don’t want to keep seeing « reports » about how close a trade is

We know Yzerman prefers to not negotiate through the media, and not much has leaked from Detroit since Yzerman has been here. Friedman has also said on podcasts I’ve listened to that he doesn’t get much from Yzerman.

Another team linked to DeBrincat is NY Islanders, and Lou is similarly tight lipped.

My point is, I am assuming whatever info that’s « out there » on DeBrincat is coming from Ottawa (or DeBrincat’s) side. We’ve even seen some back and forth from Ottawa leaks and comments from DeBrincat’s agent. The stuff about other teams not offering the term DeBrincat wants, nobody is offering as good a contract as Ottawa is, and that other teams have been allowed to negotiate with him. And then DeBrincat’s side said they haven’t been able to talk to anyone yet.

There is a lot of bickering between DeBrincat and the Senators now. Ottawa doesn’t HAVE to trade him, he just said he won’t sign long term there. And DeBrincat’s trade value depends on whether or not the team trading for him can sign him long term. A rebuilding team like Detroit isn’t going to pay a lot for a possible rental. Ottawa was dumb to make that mistake last year, as a team not quite in contention trading for a player that wasn’t going to sign with them.

Ottawa is probably trying to create some leverage to get a better deal from Yzerman, or play the waiting game to see if another team will jump in to drive the trade cost up.

If DeBrincat wants Detroit, it kind of ties their hands. Not many teams have DeBrincat type of cap space.

It either happens or it doesn’t. I’m kind of sick of the media continuing to update on nothing… Makes me appreciate how Yzerman has done business outside the media.

Tied for 63rd in league in scoring last year with -31 +- As a below average follower of the league how much are we giving up for him to come here

  15. SevenStringGod

This is reaching Rachel and Ross on Friends levels of ‘will they/won’t they’

  16. slabby

Hopefully Yzerman is haggling them down. I know they don’t really want cap back because they’re trying to sign Tarasenko.

I’d do 2nd+Johansson or something similar. Pick and a defense prospect. I’d be pretty hesitant to send a forward back. Maybe Soderblom, but I wouldn’t like it.

  17. Scary-Extent5740

It’s gotta be someone of value so when we trade someone everyone likes don’t complain. It’s takes some talent in a trade to get some talent. I wouldn’t be shocked if it was Berg

  18. AffectionateMrPink

Really don’t want to part with a first here. We can wait a year and get him for free I’d think if he really wants to play here. Trust Stevie here as he usually comes out on top with his trades.

  20. Problemcharlie

I would rather have DeBrincat on the Wings than not but holy cow, get him, don’t get him, please stop the ride I want to get off. And if Yzerman doesn’t get the deal done then move on to someone else, like Nylander for example

  21. wriley499

This is getting my hopes up too much. I really want him.

  22. danifromyara52

If we have $10mil in cap space how does $1.8 give us “more room” when ADB will get 8.5/9tops. I get it but I dont get it. Who else to sign, thought we were done?

  23. FragmentEx

Jesus is coming again before DeBrincat is a Wing

  24. jackstalke

Does Dorion stay up nights thinking of these meaningless statements to toss to the media or what? Dude is exhausting.

  25. ChucklesLeClown

    Kubalik, Veleno and a 2024 2nd rounder(might turn into a 2024 first)

  26. MNightShyamalan69

    Please get it done Stevie

  27. dmorley21

This is not a great write up of what he said – he prefaced this by saying it was quiet yesterday and he wasn’t sure about anything. He’s pretty careful reporting on stuff related to the Wings due to Yzerman’s cone of secrecy.

  28. dkyguy1995

Replacing Zadina with Debrincat is a pretty nice change

  29. KanataRef

So who else here is refreshing every 10 minutes… lol.

  30. ItsDaBurner

Can we stop giving these articles clicks? It’s been a week+ of « maybe! » and we’re letting these « journalists » get away with such lazy content.

  31. digitalUID

It’s gonna be devastating if he winds up somewhere else, like Long Island. The build up is exhausting. Hopefully it means a good deal though.

  32. EconMan

I really dislike these media types who say enough so that they actually say nothing. Oh the trade isn’t that far away…oh but the last hurdle is the toughest? Ok…so what’s that mean? Absolutely nothing. He’s saying so much so that he’s right no matter what.

Remember when Friedman talked about potential Eichel destinations?

    >You have to think **Boston** tries, but do they have the pieces? No one lusts after a centre more than **Columbus**, but, again, do they have what Buffalo wants? **Philadelphia** could do it. **Anaheim** was in on Pierre-Luc Dubois, and they have the pieces. **Los Angeles** certainly can. It doesn’t make sense for them, but **Ottawa** could, too. So could **Montreal**. There’s going to be a **serious suitor we don’t think of**.

    https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/31-thoughts-caused-disconnect-eichel-sabres/

The guy names SEVEN TEAMS and none of them ended up being right. OH, but he did say « serious suitor we don’t think of » so he can point to that and claim he knew all along. It’s nonsense.

  33. GronkSSBM

I just bought a berggren jersey this year so if we trade him I will be distraught
