Trying to remember my stats classes but I’ll give it a go. This is my first time trying to read these advanced stats stuff so I apologize if it’s off.
So he’s over 2 standard deviations above average (league average I assume?) in controlled entry with chance % ( I assume that means his offensive zone entries that lead to a successful chance is in the +95 percentile of the league compared to other players in his position). So in layman’s terms, he’s really good at offensive zone entry and setting up other players that leads to high quality chances very often. Which is good for us if he’s finding a finisher who can put the puck in the net often like a tkachuk or Verhaege. I take it as a good guy for the power play to get into the zone or just overall 5v5 offensive potential. So if his entries that lead to chances are above average then that means guys can set up quicker and get into their positions quicker knowing he’s more than likely to get in the zone and make something happen. That’s my interpretation.
The exit off retrieval confuses me a bit I’m not sure of the terminology and can’t seem to find out what it means on a quick google search. Assuming they mean he exits the dzone when retrieving the puck then his number is again almost 3 standard deviations above average. In layman’s terms when he retrieves the puck in his own zone he’s successful at bringing it out or getting it out about 99% of the time which is pretty outstanding. And his retrievals with possession is about +95% of the time so he can carry it out of his own zone pretty much every time.
So if he’s this success at getting it out by either pass or carry that means the forwards can start getting ready to break out soon as this guy gets the puck because he’s going to get it to them or get it out of their own zone. Makes break outs easier which leads to better offence.
From what I gather from those 3 stats is that this guy gets the puck out of his own zone no matter what and can get it in the ozone and lead to a chance pretty much every time. If the panthers can utilize those 3 attributes then he can be a very useful dman this year
