@Penguins de Pittsburgh

I mean… it’s a poker game until Karlsson decides on one team and then SJ just has to go to whatever team he chooses.

Intrigued if Grier would actually start the season with him on the roster given his age/possibility of injury, but he’d truly be playing with fire since it’s not like EK could actually raise his value any higher than it was after a Norris winning season with 100+ pts. Sometimes the market is the market.

I’m tired of refreshing… please just choose so I can be elated or fall to my knees in a parking lot

Carolinas going to be the first team ever to run 9 defenseman every game.

Imagine going back a few years and saying on the sub that we might miss out on a trade for Erik Karlsson because we didn’t want to give up Marcus Pettersson.

SJS in a real lose-lose situation. All evidence points to Pens being the front runner, and that the return for him
will be nothing of substance. I’d bet the most significant assets they get in return will be POJ and a second rounder. SJS just biding time and hoping another team throws their hat in or Carolina decides they need to have him.

Ok fine. They can have Granlund

I guess the package both Carolina and Pittsburgh gave are close because if one was way better than the other, would the deal be done?

  8. waitforit55

We don’t need him at that cost.

    Not going to happen

The Sharks have way less leverage now and they still don’t have a lot. I honestly think it would cost the Penguins more to acquire Seth Jones than Karlsson.

There are only two teams that are willing to make a deal in the whatever realm of asking the Sharks are in right now and neither are going to wait around forever.

Karlsson has requested a trade publicly. His cap hit is 11.5 for 4 more season. He is 33 years old. Karlsson has some control over where he ends up.

If the Sharks don’t get this done with Pittsburgh or Carolina soon they are going to have to lower the asking price/raise the amount of $ they retain. Otherwise no one is trading for him.

I also don’t think any good NHL GM is so short sighted to forget that, despite winning the Norris this year, overall Karlsson’s tenure in San Jose has been a pretty big disaster.

As much as I’d drool to see Karlsson on the penguins, I don’t know if he’d be the thing to put us over the top to make us a true contender again or if giving up what it would take (I really don’t want to see POJ traded) would be worth it

    « Who’s willing to bend »

Well that doesn’t sound like Waddell. Unsure if Dubas is someone that is willing to push the chips in.

  13. tsmittycent

are they trading Letang then? 11 million cap hit for 4 more years will fucking cripple this team, especially when he declines which will happen anytime now, some could Argue before this year it
Already was happening. This is going to be a nightmare.
Karlson hasn’t won a damn thing in his life and will not help this team they need ppl to actually play defense

Other than my penguin pages I follow. All my other hockey pages when mentioning Karlson speak as if he’s going to Carolina. So I have no clue which team is truly in a higher position of getting him

Do I think EK puts us over the top for a cup in the next two years, maybe? Do I care about the handcuffs of an EK salary in 4 years, when C/M/L will all be in their late 30s, much less. This team is toast 4 years from now, so it’s win now and realistically, we have a 2, maybe 3 year window.

Half this sub wasn’t alive to watch a team where Dick Tarnstrom was leading the team in points. Dark days ahead so let’s go out with a bang

  16. The trade will happen AFTER Tarasenko signs.

  17. Kidspud

Last time, I did the ‘Sonic tapping his foot impatiently’ reference for my feelings on this situation. Now I’m at ‘Sonic starting to run off the screen’

  18. As a Miami Heat and Penguins fan this offseason is killing me. I have the potential to be so happy with EK and Lillard on my teams or be so devastated if they aren’t.

  19. City_Of_Champs

    His preference is already PIT

  20. RiseAbove87

It’s hilarious to me how DeAngelo is fully capable of outplaying Karlsson next year at 2.5M, at the cost of a 7th rounder. TDA had 16 points more than EK in 2021-22, while being a +44 better.

Yet they’re willing to throw away a rock defender like Pesce at 4mil + a really good Forward like Teurovainen or something to fit 33 y/o EK at 8.5M for 4 years.
And remember, Carolina is not like us where their window dies in 2 years and beyond that you can absorb shit deals. No, they will get punished for this if this goes through.

Watch this be like the Pens got Iggy after everyone was certain he was going to be a bruin. Karlsson everyone thinks will be a hurricanes or a penguins but I’d be willing to wager a buck or two on someone who is reportedly out of the running but has talked about Karlsson with the sharks
