  1. You guys are going to have the fans booing and hating this guy before he ever arrives, like you have done to many of the players. It's bottom six change for this year……that is all we needed, I don't know how it only took a couple days for everyone's heads to go to top pair or Brock boeser. Just unreal

  2. DK: this trade is a real head scratcher. As fans, no choice but to watch to see what happens down the stretch (hoping for the best, expecting much less).

  3. I was pretty nauseous all night after this horrendous news… 3 players lost for a 3rd round, some liberator guy, and a huge contract…

  4. Why on earth.. what are we doing here, just spinning wheels? Making trades cause we can but not actually doing anything? Get him out, this is miserable watching the Metro load up on weapons and we get… Kapanen 2.0

  5. Penguins fans logic. We'd rather keep Blueger, who has 10 points on the season rather than Granlund, who can actually produce a modest 36 points on the season. Also, Penguins fans: Granlund is equal in caliber with Kapanen. Sorry it's hard to see that comparison when he literally has double the assists that Kapanen has at 27 vs 13. Not to mention that deadweight trash in Brock McGinn is gone which should definitely help a little bit.

  6. Kapanen, ($3.2 Mil season) and Blueger, (just under $2 Mi/Season) combined this season for a total of (30) points. Granlund, ($5 Mil/Season has (36) points on the season. I think the reaction to this is a little bit over blown. I like the ideas though for other players the Pens could have gotten instead as if one guy was going to make this team a legit Cup contender. The Pens could have gotten Kane, but was he by himself going to make this team a cup contender, NOPE! Too many other holes to fill. They would have needed to replace 3 to 4 guys on this teams bottom 6 for that and there was no way that amount of money was going to be freed up. People talking about Hextall purposely ruining the Pens cup chances. What would those of you saying that have said if he didn’t resign Malkin and/or Letang?!? That same very thing.

  7. Just looked at the projected lines for today's game and saw Granlund slotted as a third line winger and felt better – NOT! The biggest issue is the contract. I'd felt much better with Chychryn on defense and any number of WBS players in the bottom six replacing Teddy and McGinn. Did Burke have no input on this decision?

  8. i'm not certain but i recall you harping on and on all season about this team needing to revamp the 3rd line. i believe you even used the phrase "do anything". well, Hextall does something, and now you blast him for it? got rid of two 3rd liners and got a more skilled replacement.

  9. I know this stinks to point out— but remember this is no longer Mario's Penguins

  10. This team gives up infinite shots to good teams bc they cannot transition the puck. Hextall's solution is to trade the teams best defensive forward and replace him with a more expensive playmaker…. to play on the 3rd line….? Is this real?

Given Granlund's transition game is probably much better than Bluegers, but he is also making 3 million more and for two more seasons! The benefit the team gets here is not enough to justify the cap space they are using for it.

This team also continues to have THREE NHL caliber left handed defenseman on the roster and has one goalie that is made of glass with an AHL caliber back up. Glaring issues that needed to be addressed if they were actually serious about making a run. They didn't address any of them, likely couldn't, so instead they make a trade to make a trade…. and this trade might have just closed the window on Sid's 4th championship chances.

If Granlund is the trade, I would have rather just sold Zucker and Dumo and tried for a soft rebuild for next season. Now the Pens have 10 million sunk into Carter, Granlund, and McGinn for next season… that is a gigantic weight on the roster. What ever GM takes over this mess is going to have to try and unload this junk by giving a way assets to get bottom teams to take the contracts and then will have to try and rebuild through FA… that NEVER works for anyone.

Another thing people aren't really talking about is that Granlund is going to be getting third line minutes here and those 9 goals he has scored in Nashville are with 18+ minutes of ice time per game. His point production is WORSE than Kapanen's when you adjust for TOI. Kapanen is averaging one point every 27 minutes of ice time, Granlund one point every 30.

This is an absolute joke of a trade. Granlund isn't a terrible player in a vacuum (neither was Kapanen) but at 3.5 million Kapanen was and at 5 million Granlund is what is known as a nightmare.

Hextall needs to go. Shame on the ownership group for letting this continue.

  11. I think the answer to Hextall is to view this like you look at corporate america. Ineptitude abounds at the management level which includes upper management. I think it is as simple as Hextall = inept at his job. But then you think that someone inept must have hired this guy. I view this as being Similar to the Tomlin hiring Canada situation. It is said that coach Sullivan really wanted Chicryn (sp?)…hextall should have listened to people who know what they are talking about..I think Chicryn was just what this team needed and looks like they could have easily had him and I think he would have liked to be a Penguin.

  12. Jt miller man jesus 100 points year. Is next year's draft stacked? Someone call lebron James beg for hextall nightmare to be finally over. It was a bad desperate move from the jump. It's like Rutherford took our mojo with him

  13. I can't help but think this means the end for Zucker and grandlund is the replacement for the next few years. This shows hextall doesn't deserve a job anywhere. I loved grandlund back then but now it's a horrible deal and I can only think he plans on "fixing" the bottom 6 in the off-season

  14. Thank you' thank you. thank you for the jo? I must need mental health treatment because I have been shouting this since we acquired Hextall and he has done nothing to prove me wrong he is and will bringing our PENS down!!! I will keep on saying it till proven otherwise!

  15. Everyone was begging for Brock Boeser and he only has 2 more points than Granlund. Another thing, Brock McGinn was moved to the minors for Drake Cagguila. There is no way in hell Cagguila can do as bad as McGinn was doing. Also, Kapanen who was doing absolutely nothing is also gone. I know Teddy Blueger was good on the penalty kill but the dude already lost his scoring touch at age 28. They swapped 3 bottom 6 forwards and everyone is complaining. What else do you people want? To trade Carter, Poehling, and Archibald. Ok maybe Heinen I get but who else? I mean seriously. I know Hextall isn't a great gm but I was willing to give him a chance if he made a little shakeup in the bottom six. I'd still like to maybe get Miller but that's looking unlikely. If one more major move is made for the deadline I am willing to give it a chance.

  16. Someone in this organization please intervene. I know the damage is already done but get this Philly scum out of here. He is clearly sabotaging the team or he is just really dumb, either way I want him gone. This is laughable if you’re not a pens fan. Mario help!! Fire Hextall!!!!

  17. Hextall has left a wake of destruction from Philadelphia all the way to Pittsburgh. I like Granlund and I agree he would be a nice addition anywhere …. except here … in the current situation. Burke and Hextall are both miserably horrible at their jobs and …. never mind …. hopeless.

  18. O’riley was the guy I was hoping the penguins would go all out for. He would have fit perfectly for the penguins. I think hextall has an issue with valuing his teams 2023 1st round pick so far ahead of what it’s worth.

  19. I dont think Hextall has any idea what he's doing. I honestly believe this move was a hail mary hoping it works out to save his job. I think Hextall is gone after this season. I'll put money on it.

  20. Really liked what Hextall was doing in the off-season. But he just f’d that all up in a couple of days. Man, this team is in shambles

  21. For one, it's weird to hear you look forward to leaving the Pens and visiting the Bucs because of a management issue.
For two, if you're prone to think sabotage, did anyone feel the same way when Ted Simmons was the Bucs' GM in 1992? I, for one, thought he was still on the Cards' side…

  22. How involved was Sullivan in this trade? I'm sure Hextall consults with him before making the deal but do we know if it was sully or Hextall that really pushed for it?

  23. A lot of negatives on this trade. Only time will tell. I would have traded/waived Kapanen, traded DeSmith and Bleuger, kept McGinn, and upgraded the backup goalie. Then I would have had a stern talk with Jarry's conditioning coach.

  24. Wtf. Hextall has to go. I said from the beginning this is why Philly kicked his ass out the door

  25. I’m so confused right now… we moved Blueger and freed up cap space to trade for a 4th line center, a guy that makes as much as Evander Kane except he only contributed in 3% of his team’s wins, and Nashville didn’t have to retain a penny of his $5m contract?

Does Brian Burke have to approve these transactions or does Hextall just have free reign? If I was a GM i’d be licking my chops to make a deal with the Pens.

  26. Hextall is just d..b m…n!
Maybe he is really Flyers sabotager for Pens, I dont know anymore LoL.. Nothing makes sense with this guy tbh.. One dumb move after another.

  27. Who was #77 on the ice tonight? That line looked really good, the playmaking ability grandlund brings will be a joy to watch, the cap hit sucks but he brought something out of Carter we all thought was gone… That takes alot
