  1. This hurts to watch as a NYR fan because every point is accurate.

Gonna be scary for a long time. This was the year for NYR to get one last kick at the can. Feels like a long dark stretch is in the future with how good the rest of the division is… let alone the league.

  2. I’m 38. I remember the cups but man the last 10 years have been rough. I don’t think Fitz gets enough credit for getting Nico and Jack to buy in before we were good. This is a really fun team to watch considering all the hate those Devil cups teams got for the trap. Found the channel this year and just want to say congrats on all your success Shannon! I watched that Ducks podcast interview and it was great!

  3. Don't sleep on Graeme Clarke at RW3, if Holtz falters. He was strong in AHL and has developed nicely since entering the the organization.

  4. Jack is breaking 100 points this season if healthy. Last season wasn't a career year, it was the start of his prime

  5. Solid looking team
Agree goaltending is it where needs to be
Other thing I saw in the playoffs, was skittish play, from the skaters. They looked young, unsure of themselves, playing below their level( car is a good team) but NJD turned over the puck with ease
So do they add some veteran leadership at the deadline?? Upgrade the Goalie?

  6. They came out shakey vs NYR a good team,
They looked the better team going into the playoffs, losing 2 games didnt cost them the round vs NYR, but it probably cost them the rd vs Car…blowouts first 2 gms, never really recovered.
Sometimes its the slow start to a series or the failure to close out a team early….that extra couple of games played also wears and tears esp through 4 rds

  7. Heard from Friedman or Serivalli that the devils view Schmid spending the year in Utica to develop another year. Especially with Daws out after hip surgery. So they’ll most certainly be adding another goalie imo

  8. People seem to neglect Nico’s ability to improve his shot. Man if he figures it out this off-season we have 4 bonafide all stars and 3 potential ones. Down the road (Hughes nemec and bratt)

  9. It's our turn. 0:25 To answer your question, ill say no we're not done. Bcuz Fitzy might do something unexpected and you'll never know. Just gotta sit here and wait, if not we'll be ready for training camp.

  10. if this team somehow gets Hellebuyck they might be the team to beat in the East

  11. The Devils are stocked. Elite offence, elite defence, respectable goalie duo. They’re going to be a serious issue this upcoming season.

  12. So damn excited for next season with Timo locked in and the addition of Toffoli. Hughes brothers time baby! Are they done? I would say maybe not. Fitz really seems to be dialed in to getting this team as ready as possible.

  13. the Devils are what I wish Minnesota would do lol commit to a "rebuild" get top 3 picks and go to work. Now look at them… 6 years later they're a true contender once again

  14. Regarding points percentage. I believe that in 1995 there were no Bettman points, so the number is obviously lower. Bettman's loser points started in the 1999-2000 season.

  15. @thehockeyguy I liked your breakdown of the individual players in each of their lines and I agree with you in that the Devils have the potential to make a serious run for the cup, either this year or next! However I also believe their success hinges on two keys points.. the team, as a whole, needs to stay healthy.. which is why I wouldn’t be upset if they found an enforcer to keep other teams from taking liberties with this you fast talented team. And secondly, I think they need one more veteran player who can add the guidance and calming influence and playoff experience into the locker room. Someone who has won a cup before.. doesn’t need to play a lot of minutes but can if need be and contributes more in the locker room and on the team trips etc. Perhaps Phil Kessel??

  16. There’s always one team people are ready to anoint as a powerhouse contender who will hat 120 points and probably win the cup and takes a complete step back.

    I think that’s the Devils.

  17. Great squad, but regression is probably a bit more likely to some degree. Still a playoff team, but its very important to note that you may actually want regression. Presidents winners dont win cups.

  18. Although I really do think we need a goalie for this year, I'm not sure it would be worth the cost long term. I think you platoon Schmid and Vanny for a while, see who takes the reigns, and then go from there. Im even okay with split duty all the way through the season. Really excited this year, thanks for the breakdown.

  19. Dynasty in the making.
They will win more than 1 cup in the 2020’s with this young core.

  20. Bro, most would say that it was more that the NYR lost the first round as opposed to the Devils won it. They overachieved in the regular season and again, had a rookie goalie play his best hockey ever against a NYR team that underperformed and even with that were a goal away from winning that series. You’re making a lot of assumptions about how well Taffoli will do in this division and if Meier’s performance was any indication when he came over the answer is not well. Lastly, Lindy will have problems again this year as he’s always done in the past.

  21. Go Devils! Love the makeup and dynamics of this team! Great depth and talent potential in the pipeline! I'd be on board to keep Vanacek and Schmid as the goalie tandem but there are definitely worries there. Yeah the defense let them down a bit in the play-offs but there was a lot of soft goals allowed especially from Vanacek. I heard rumors about a deal for Hellebuyck and would like that as long as we didn't give up too much in return. Really looking forward to the upcoming season!

  22. No goalie and the young dmen might need time to solidify their spot.

  23. Great team speed with skill up and down the lineup. Remember though: Canes were undermanned and still beat them in 5. They need good health (like all teams) and some luck to take the next step

  24. Hopefully all these teams like the devils and the sabres taking there time to do a rebuild and making the playoffs helps the canucks figure out what they should have done from the start

  25. There’s a very clear hole in that top 9 if Holtz does’t work out and there’s no one that should be trust to move up and play top 9 minutes. Also even if Holtz does work there’s obviously going to be injuries and there’s no one who should be trusted to play top 9 minutes. Love Nate but he’s a 4th liner. Foote’s not all that good. Maybe maybe Clarke but I don’t think he’ll be good enough. Unless Boqvist just really wanted out he should’ve been brought back and especially with how cheap he ended up being. He’s a serviceable bottom 6er who although wasn’t a great 3rd liner had enough speed and skill to play there and not look out of place while also having developed into a good defensive player. There should be another forward add for a guy who can play 3rd line minutes if need be. Suter to me is a perfect option. Good defensive bottom 6er who can provide some offense and play on your 3rd line and has C/W versatility.

  26. Important to add, I like how you said nico can’t be judged just on points, he has a ton of defensive value as well. But one thing to add is his leadership. He is the best young captain this league has
