As a sharks fan who watched every game this season, I can tell anyone who only sees Karlsson for his +/- that he was by far the best defenseman on the team. Hockey isn't a sport that can rely on stats to paint a picture, you have to watch it to truly know how a team plays. The Sharks played better hockey as a team this season than they did under Bougner as their coach, but you wouldn't know that looking at their record. The Karlsson slander online/in the media is completely unreasonable; especially given how team oriented this sport is.

I be hearing a leafs trade rumor that leafs trade T.J brode and Ty Volt and a pick or two for Mario Ferraro and a pick from the sharks. If it is true or not i do not know. The leafs would have 2.75M off the books if deal go through. Ty Volt's cap would be use to sign Easton Conwan to entry level contract.
2.75M may help sign llya Samsonov. Mario Ferraro is on same D-line as Erik Karlsson. I think leafs true target on Sharks wasn't Erik Karlsson but Mario Ferraro. Mario Ferraro is not feared to drop the gloves.

Rielly + Nylander for Karlsson, Labanc, Eklund + picks.
SJ then flips Rielly to Pittsburg for picks/prospects (or whatever the EK trade was without retention).
Nothing retained.
Toronto gets $2.5M in cap space, a Rielly replacement and a younger Nylander replacement.
Pittsburg gets to reunite Dubais and Rielly.
SJ gets Nylander, draft capital and two bad contracts off their books. Losing Eklund would hurt but it’d be a price to pay to rid themselves of the EK contract before he reverts to form.
If they can retain a big chunk, it would be worth. You get a much better player who (after salary retained) would have the same salary as Nylander's past $6M contract, plus you get that for 3 or so years. San Jose is in rebuild, maybe retool, so they can take that cap for the next few years for player like Nylander who is about to hit his prime.

Nylander has got to go, regardless of how much money he wants, in my opinion. The guy was just horrible defensively in the playoffs….regardless of all the fools who just look at his 4 goals. It would be a huge improvement to trade Nylander for a top defenseman.

I have proposed the following trade with both sides taking all of the other's contracts: Karlsson to The Leafs for Reilly, Brodie & Murray. Leafs take on a big contract but get rid of three large contracts of their own. Leafs might even have a little bit of room to go out and find another decent "defensive" defenceman.
I didn't do the math obviously mainly because I don't want to do it. I just enjoy being a sh*t disturber. LOL

I wouldn't take the rumour too seriously. If you listen to Toronto fans and especially Toronto sports media long enough, you'll hear that literally everyone is coming to Toronto at some point because of course they are. Evidently they don't teach math in Toronto schools.
In a way, it would be kinda nice to see though. Watching the Laffs get punted in the 1st round is way more fun the more overpaid superstars they have.
