@Sharks de San José

Les requins hors saison sont silencieux tant que nous attendons un échange de Karlsson

Eh bien, je pensais avec certitude quand j’ai commencé ce regard sur les 32 équipes que les Sharks auraient un échange impliquant désormais Karlsson. 1. This team is going through a long painful rebuild, I don't expect them to get competitive in less than 5 years

  2. I think most people do not define rebuilding in sports correctly. The term of what the sharks are doing is reloading.

Getting a vet like Duclair with the intention to trade him at the deadline could be a rebuilding strategy by my own admission.

You would have to get a high enough draft pick at the deadline or be good enough at scouting with the late pick for it to be a rebuild strategy or it is just a reload move.

The downside to the Duclair trade is that he can help win the sharks more meaningless regular season games which will hurt them in every round of the draft. If you do not get a draft pick of high enough value at the deadline you would have been better off scouting a young cheap player and giving him that playing time.

Some good players are undrafted like Whitecloud and Logan Thompson for the Knights. You deny yourself to rebuild in this way or with any prospect in the sharks organization. Plus you have full control over these players and have no control over Duclair after the deadline.

When no team traded down on draft day or right before it in the 1st round of the 2023 draft it just flaunted all the teams in the top 10 were reloading. You have no insurance from being wrong and even if you hit you can still have no chance to win a cup anyway because the overall team is not good enough to win a cup.

A rebuilding team would be better off getting multiple firsts / future first and top 100 prospects to try to improve the overall team while at the same time making it easier to get a top 10 pick in every round again in 2024.

The Sharks in my opinion will win more meaningless regular season games and hurt their own 2024 draft by drafting lower in every round.

Just like with the Oilers and McDavid and Leon if Bedard never wins a cup with the Hawks the argument should be made the Hawks should have rebuilded and traded down for the treasure chest of draft picks they would have got. Drafting a HOF player does not guarantee a cup win.

If the Oilers never win a cup with them there is an alternate reality when they do trade down instead and maybe improve the overall team more with those extra picks. Maybe they win the cup in that other timeline since the whole roster is better.

If you still do not believe me look at Filip Zadina with the Red Wings. They had the 6th overall pick and they just lit it on fire. As a reloading team they had no insurance they completely missed. A team that was truly rebuilding would have had insurance as to not waste their awful season.

The Red Wings have not made the playoffs in 7 years now and that Alex DeBrincat trade and contract just flaunts they are reloading and not rebuilding. A rebuilding team would trade his 7.8 million cap hit in a cap dump trade for draft picks.

A reloading team cares way more about winning sooner over later and a rebuilding team is way more cool with losing if it helps the whole team over just 1 top prospect. You can guarantee yourself a top 5 pick in every round by rebuilding.

When the Sharks traded down in the first round in 2022 that was a rebuilding trade / move. Taking Will Smith with no insurance is reloading.

Reloading is fine if you are a playoff team with a realistic cup shot but when you are not many bad teams hurt themselves and just waste time. Most first round picks never win a cup with the team that drafts them.

I think many fans and GM's do not know this or just forgot.

  3. A G.M. who trades to get Karlsson has one of two fates waiting for him. If Karlsson plays as well this year as last the G.M. will look like a genius but if he doesn't then he will be looking for a new job. It's a huge gamble but some G.M. with a team on the cusp might go for it.

  4. Duclair is fine, he missed half a season with an injury and looked like he was finding his game in the playoffs. Good pickup for SJ

  5. Felt like Skinner a couple years ago for Buffalo but the trade didn’t happen given that cap hit.

  6. If the Sharks do end up trading away Karlsson this summer, I can honestly see them signing Matt Dumba to a one or two year contract. If he hasn't already been signed by another team by then, that is.

  7. "Was the defence with Karlsson great? No." And this is the guy that won the Norris, I feel that the criteria for what makes the best defenceman is way off.

  8. Have you got a contact with the league, or maybe the nice people you talked to in Anaheim, that could hook you up with the 2023-2024 NHL media guide since it has all the pronunciations and all that. I have one from like 10 years ago and it was fascinating. Ok, the guide says X, the jersey says X, why are the home media guys saying it differently?

  9. Much like real sharks, they are not a fan of tanks and will try anything to avoid going into one

  10. The amount of Karlsson’s salary the Sharks’s retain in a trade is proportional to the number of #1 picks they get in return.

  11. Finally you made this video, now Karlsson can get traded!

I think he will end up with the Pens. If not, I think he remains a Shark, but I really want the trade to happen!

  12. I really don't think Karlsson is going anywhere until next year. I've been saying that since the deadline

  13. I would think that after the next season is over when the cap goes up several million would open the market to several more teams. Sit tight Mr Grier….

  14. this team is treading water until Couture and Vlasic disappear…wonder what it would take to get Hertl out of there…

  15. I've got to give some credence to the rumors involving Vancouver in a 3-way trade, since they are sort of rebuilding/retooling as well. Here goes my mock trade:

To Pittsburgh: EK65 at $7mil/season, Nico Sturm (Effectively clear $4.925 million in cap)
To Vancouver: Pitt 24-27 6th round picks, Matt Benning, Casey DeSmith, Retains $2 million/yr of EK65 (Effectively clear $1 million in cap)
To San Jose: Pitt 24 first (protected), Pitt 25 2nd, Pitt 26/27 7th round picks, Jan Rutta, Jeff Petry, Jeff Carter, Tyler Myers, Ty Smith, Joel Blomquivst (Effectively add $6.625 million)

So, I don't think Eklund or Bordelau spend much time in the NHL this year. Grier has made it clear he wants to develop his players, and he wants them to build a winning culture in the AHL. Last year wasn't that, but after a year of playing together, I think the moves made have said, "We want to have a team on the ice until the trade deadline, and the kids can get playing time after the deadline." San Jose can make this cap work because they can move some players to the AHL that will ultimately add up to the difference between their current cap space and that 6.625.

This also gives San Jose an opportunity to have a really good AHL defensive setup. But this is why I see this as a win/win/win:

Pitt gets its superstar and insurance policy for Letang. They also swap out a more expensive and more liable 3rd line center in Carter for a younger, more defensive-minded center in Sturm. Sturm also has cup winning experience with Colorado. San Jose will like Carter as being available as a mentor for call-ups and young players like Zetterlund and Zadina.

Vancouver gets a replacement right-handed d-man who will cost 1/4 of Myers for the next 3 years, some depth picks over the 4 years of retention, and an upgrade in backup goaltending for Demko. I don't think Benning is better than Myers, but at this point in his career, and the way their season went, I think Vancouver would rather have Benning effectively costing them 3.25 million than Myers 6 million. Also, the lulz of Matt Benning going to Vancouver after Jim left…

And for San Jose, they don't clear cap, but they do take on 2 expiring contracts, in addition to everything else. They end up with a plethora of moveable pieces at the trade deadline, and have 1 more retention available to use on Myers potentially. Playoff bound teams will salivate over a big body like Myers, depth experience like Carter, or some high offensive upside wingers like Duclair, Barabonov, and Lebanc. I imagine that, right now, a lot of the negotiations going on are figuring out where those players might want to end up, once traded to SJ, ultimately, and maybe some stipulations about trading them to division rivals.

I don't see a true double retention on EK65's contract at 50/25. If 50% is retained there won't be a 3rd team involved, or if it is, that team won't be retaining 25% of 11.5 million. But this, to me, seems like a realistic hockey trade. Pittsburgh doesn't really need depth in defense if they've got 2 guys that can play 20-25 minutes a night and be consistent offensive threats. Vancouver doesn't get much better, they also dont get much worse, and have more money to play with this year. And San Jose embraces the full rebuild by having serviceable players on a team of "prove it"s.

  16. Sharks gonna be so bad this year. I’m ready for it. We’re loaded up on trade bait and have definitely embraced the tank. Also we pronounce it Goose 🪿 Chin

  17. Karlsson is unlikely to be traded.
Anyone paying a high price for Karlsson will likely be very disappointed.

  18. I don’t understand the Canes interest in Erik Karlsson..Brent Burns and Karlsson never seemed a compatible situation..two very individual and unique players..each has re-emerged playing on different teams this last season.

  19. I was really impressed by Gushchins 2 games he played, hes small but has a lethal shot and seems to find good shooting lanes easily

  20. Man I did not realize how excellent the names are on this team. When it comes to hockey names, the Sharks are elite. Clearly a contender.

  21. On paper….they actually they actually aren't half that bad….defense is very questionable…weird to see vlassic really slump like this…hard to see this squad being the worst in the NHL, I think they can do better then MTL,PHI, and ARI. As much I want to say ARI will break even….I don't think that's realistic…Should still finish bottom 5 but I like the makeup and direction. The return from karlson will be key…I give them 5 years though to get back….I wonder what the future for coture and hertl will happen because they don't meet the teams needs….might as well stock up on capital, spend in FA and build around new core….once they get the tires rolling you make a big move….like Steve yezermen trading for karlson, not signing a bunch of middle tweener guys for over 4mil. I really think Detroit offeason is highly questionable…please correct me if I'm wrong…. I don't see the difference between kubilak and debrincat besides ADB will score 10 more goals but will let up 20 more goals so not sure what is what here. Really bad trade in my eyes….maybe a fabbri 2nd and 3rd…throw in a 4th just to say so….not happy with Detroit eventhoufh this is a SJ video

  22. Kaut was given a qualifying offer. Sharks still hold his rights.

    Also its GOO-shin

  23. My teams are the Sharks and the Pens (family in both places) and my god I don’t want Karlsson on either of my teams he brings down all teams

  24. If what Kaut said about the 'Cuda coaches instructing him to fight are true, I am shocked, More so about only offering him $100k and stashing him the AHL so he couldn't make salary in the NHL.

  25. Karlsson to SEA, DAL, or LV.

Kaut was given a qualifying offer but went back to Czechia and accused the AHL coaching staff of forcing him to fight to get to the NHL.

Gushchin is going to be the surprise this year. All that kid does is snipe goals. I saw him almost pull off the Michigan while skating full speed in an AHL game. Highly skilled.

  26. I saw a ridiculous trade rumour the other day. Couture and Eklund for Lindholm. Even the smallest amount of brain power would realise a rebuilding team isn't going to sell off one of their top prospects, and the sharks don't need to make cap space.

  27. It's funny you mention Mario Ferraro is underrated cause there's sharks fans who HATE how he plays
