  1. Every year is a different year. Injuries can happen, regression can happen. But a team could also explode when no one expects it. Fact of the matter is the Panthers are playoffs contenders this year whether you like it or not. Too much talent in that lineup for anyone to realistically look at them and say “mmm I don’t know, I think they’re in trouble this year”

  2. They made a few small improvements depth wise vs last years team. So I'd expect them to be slightly better this upcoming season.

  3. A blessing and a curse is that the Panthers are built for the playoffs. Maurice’s style of play requires balls to the wall 100% effort on the forecheck and defensively focused hockey every game and to grit out low scoring wins. In the regular season that’s trouble because our guys get gassed so easily. We saw it last year that they didn’t win 3 in a row till late in the season. It was always win 1 lose 1, win 2 lose 1. They were lucky with a 4 game win streak and a 6 game win streak at the very end to squeak into the playoffs. They very well may need to “sneak” in to the playoffs again this season, but if and when we get in to the playoffs we should have no problem making some noise again. it’s hard to rule them out with a top 6 consisting of Barkov, Tkachuk, Reinhart, Bennet, Verhaeghe, Lundell. 🔥🔥

  4. The Atlantic is gonna be interesting to watch next year. Lightning are probably the safest team to predict to make the playoffs despite losing Killorn due to rest and getting younger. Due to Toronto’s cap situation (3.2 million over WITH Muzzin on Ltir) I think they might have to trade Nylander so they’re a much different team on paper. Boston might honestly be closer to last place in the Atlantic if Bergeron does retire. Florida should make the playoffs but they need Montour or Ekblad to come back from injury (both tbh) because that defense looks rough. Once they get healthy they should be a force but they’re gonna need to survive until then. If Montreal can stay healthy I could see them being competitive but not quite wild card level. Ottawa lost DeBrincat but they have enough fire power to challenge for a playoff spot. Detroit could take a wild card spot too but I don’t see it happening this year. Buffalo is my prediction to make the playoffs of the 4 Atlantic teams that missed it last year. I could see there being a small difference in point total between the first and last team. If I were to predict the division, I’d say
Florida (injuries will be tough but if they get healthy they should have a strong season)
Tampa (tough losing Killorn but they got younger and healthier, plus they’ve usually slacked in March because they’re comfortably in a playoff spot and didn’t want to burn themselves out which won’t be as much of a problem)
Buffalo (kinda just a feeling, but I think they have a breakout year)
Toronto (I think they make the playoffs but it will be a weird regular season. The defense got worse, they need to resign Samsonov, I still think Nylander is gone, Bertuzzi is a great pick up but Domi can go from a top 6 winger to an absolute ghost depending on what team he is on)
Ottawa (just miss playoffs but will be fun to watch)
Detroit (they’re better but I don’t think they’re playoff bound yet)
Boston (yep, I’m probably gonna be wrong about them being 7th but when the top center is Charlie Coyle I think it’s an even bolder prediction to say they make the playoffs at all, plus Pastrnak probably won’t have another 60 goal, 100 point year and they lost more pieces than Tampa, Toronto, and Florida combined. They already overachieved and now have a significantly worse team)
Montreal (I want to put them higher but I just don’t know who I’d put them above)

  5. They had their chance and they blew it. Paul Maurice is going to get rid of Barkov as soon as he can.

  6. Hockey guy, will you do other previews of teams after the offseason and before the regular season? If yes can you include the draft picks? It’s always interesting to know who has what. 😊

  7. I admit I underestimated the Panthers all last season, I wont be doing that again this season. Theyll be in the playoffs again.

  8. I hate they lost the chance to sign Wheeler and Scheiffele, two createst successes of Maurices coaching careern

  9. Despite his miraculous performance in the 2023 playoffs he still hasn't done nearly enough to offset his 10M contract from hindering the team going forward. If he struggles again out of the gate he's def one of the worst contracts once again.

  10. They were an 8th seed Cinderella finalist. That pretty much guarantees that theyll suck this year.

  11. Remember Barkov played only 68 games during the regular season, solid +5 in the playoffs.

  12. 3 first round picks traded in less time then the Colorado Rockies traded their '81-83 picks. You can tell me how Florida tries to stay in the hunt, but I look at New Jersey and subsequent… Maybe Florida does. Maybe Florida Doesn't. So maybe they end up alright, but they don't have future first round picks.

  13. We'll see. Goaltending was the reason for their run last playoffs. If vezina Bob shows up then yeah I think they can make a solid run again. If the other Bob shows up I expect them to have a similar regular season and struggle to make the playoffs. Its a fine line. The Calgary Flames had more points than this panther team last season. Red hot goaltending at the right time made all the difference last season.

  14. Panthers made the playoffs by one point over buffalo and pittsburg, they struggled all season long and then the playoffs redeem them big time.
i'm unsure if they can win the wildcard next year but they are in the wildcard race for sure.

  15. I don't think so. The Panthers ruined the Leafs revenge tour last year. So when the 2023-24 season starts, the Panthers won't be contending for a Cup Finals.

  16. Hard to see Florida missing the playoffs a year after making the finals, but that defense is looking pretty shaky (on paper) without Ekblad and Montour for part of the season, and losing Gudas. And if Bob reverts to his regular season form, yikes…

  17. So I’m guessing we’re just ignoring those “only 78 points” was in 68 games? 94 point pace in 82 games

  18. The team should finish I’d say at least 8 points higher than last season, since a lot of the guys now have Paul Maurice’ systems in place. I predict they finish 3rd in the Atlantic or at least WC1

  19. What if the Panthers get lightning in a bottle and a couple of late round picks turn out to be stars? It could happen. Or if the scouts do their jobs and get a player and turn him around or if both of these things happen at the same time?

  20. You forgot Gudas on players who left.

Someone not on the board to keep an eye on is Mackie Samoskevich, our 2021 first round pick. Word coming out of development camp is that he looks absolutely NHL ready. Now, whether he actually gets the chance to prove that is another story, especially since it seems Paul Maurice really values veterans more. Also, I think the general expectation (or at least HOPE) amongst us Panthers fans is that Lucas Carlsson is on the NHL roster and playing every game (AT LEAST while Monty/Ekblad are out), because he was great in his limited time 2 years ago under Bruno, and he was incredible in the AHL last year.

  21. Stolarz going from the worst team in the league to one of the best…a soft landing for him

  22. Stupid Flyers goalies always doing good at other teams. Lyon out, Stolarz in.

  23. I think the run that was, was the chance. I don't think they will fall off like the Habs but I don't expect another run either.

  24. I think this might be a critical year for the franchise. If their attendance doesn't improve after a run to the final, the team may decide to leave South Florida. FLA Live Arena isnt getting any younger and its considered a bottom 10 arena in the NHL. The team has an opt out for their contract for the arena after next season, and I could see them get out. I could also see them making a move to Orlando, hoping to keep some of their old fans (Tampa may block this as Orlando is very much Lightning country).

  25. As a Buffalo fan, I’m hoping the amount of injuries and games played during this past Cinderella postseason run allows the Sabres to finally leapfrog the cats.

  26. I hope they don't over pay for montour and Varghese

  27. All boils down to whether the Panthers get playoff Bob or regular season Bob… Lol

  28. Barkov was on pace for 95 points so is it really a down season. Something’s missing in the playoffs though. He was satisfied for not stealing from the game but it sounds like he tries to force the regular season game to post season and not adapt.

  29. That picture for this video made me think he had a huge milk mustache.

  30. Cats won the Presidents Trophy two years ago, hosted the All-Star Game and Tkachuk MVP, then the Stanley Cup Finals, and all of it in a destination location that people all around the world want to live in. I am absolutely proud to be a season ticket holder and think Cats win the cup in the next two seasons.

  31. To me it felt as though the Florida panthers got hot at the right time and went on a run. It felt like the Canadiens in 2021. Personally I don’t see bob carying that into this season and could potential the playoffs with Detroit Buffalo and the penguins and caps looking for a bounce back year.

  32. Every player in the league is going to be high alert for Montour's pinching going forward.
