@Maple Leafs de Toronto

    He had a good year and has something nice to build on.

    I wish we can go long term with Samsonov, but it looks like Woll will be our next starter after him

    I still believe there was a handshake deal between Treliving/Samsonov’s camp about intentionally going to arbitration to reset the Murray buyout window… but then again, this sounds crazy

    Samsanov had some pretty mad pedigree coming into he NHL. Similar hype to a guy like Vasilevsky. Sammy Smiles was a former 1st rounder with an outstanding KHL & international hockey resume.

    Really hard to gauge expectations now, or figure out what a fair long-term contract would be. But either way, it’ll be great if he can continue to gain confidence, stay healthy, and build on the quality year he had last year.

    I do hope management decides to commit to a goalie long term in the future. I know people are excited about Wolls future and for him to develop but goalie development is like rolling dice and unless you can see the future you have no idea. We have gotten excited about plenty of young goaltenders who seemed to have sky high ceilings (Justin Pogge, Andrew Raycroft) for it to not work out. I’m not saying Woll will be the same but I’m definitely not gonna say he will be any different.

    I’m glad. It felt like the logical way for it to go. He had a great season but a small track record so I feel like both sides knew it would be easier in arbitration.

    Doesn’t seem like the type that would let arbitration bother him.

    It’s like two opposing lawyers in court going for the jugular when arguing a case but are able to go for a beer after and compliment each other on their submissions and not take it personally.

    It’s business.
