  1. W for all 3 teams. The East just gets more interesting and Karlsson gets his chance to be on a SC winning team.

  2. Pittsburgh is soooooo screwed if they don’t win the Cup THIS season !!! As a Red Wings fan, we know a bit about rebuilds, and this one is gonna hurt for Pens fans when it finally comes to bear. They’ve been mortgaging the future for a while now, and they’re giving up MORE high picks.

  3. Hoffman: "What's my jersey number in San Jose going to be?"

GM Grier: "Mike, you're more than a number to us."

Hoffman: "You're trading me again aren't you?"

  4. I don't see people talking about how Pittsburgh also cleared 3.1 mil in cap space in this trade. Seems like San Jose can also flip the players they acquired in this trade during or before the season, and Montreal gets some pieces to either trade or keep for the future. This trade seems great for everyone involved.

  5. sj got nothing but a late first rounder. pitts is one injury away from missing playoffs again, and having no future till 2030, and montreal was real winner.

  6. Winner of this trade is SJ.

Mtl will trade Petry again before the season.

Pitts are the looser here. Awful contract, getting older, same situation as Tor with 4 players eating way too much cap space, no real goaler and crap def. They will miss the playoff again.

  7. I have not seen any mention of it so far, Legaré is coming home to his birth city.

  8. Happiest Ive been for the sharks in 5 years. Karlsson is the most overrated player in hockey. Terrible defender who managed to have a -30 +/- in a season he scored 102 points. I'm just happy the bum is gone.

  9. You are horribly wrong, getting rid of Karlsson will allow the sharks to actually rebuild. He's trash and only hurt the sharks with his god awful defense. Best news in years for San Jose

  10. The man, the myth, the san jose legend, Mike Hoffman returns to San Jose!

  11. Yes they didn’t get enough but I think this allows the sharks to fully commit to a rebuild without worrying about that gigantic contract.

  12. Not a big Karlsson fan. Maybe he could have restructured his contract to something thats hes actually worth

  13. Great way to build a reputation than by trading a contract that was untradable and to get pieces back. Great job Mike

  14. Now that that one’s out of the way I’m (still) curious what Anaheim will end up doing with Gibson.

  15. I hope Crosby will finally make Karlsson play his actual position, defence. He's garbage at that.

  16. Either the Pens remian a fringe playoff team like before or they pull a Boston and have a stellar season, seemingly turining-back the clock a decade, only to bow-out in the first round to a NKOTB like Detroit or Buffalo. I'm betting on the latter, and I think the Pens are in for a decade plus of pain and mediocrity as their core slowly ages and declines.

  17. if you look back at every single trade Dubas has made as a NHL GM… he's came out on the losing end of every single one of them. have a look at them. I expect this trade to be no different. his scouting is terrible across the board. he can't build bottom six depth. and now he's put himself in a terrible cap situation all over again just because the fanbase were screaming for a player.

  18. Karlson is best on losing teams. He struggles if a team is doing well

  19. I think the Canadiens won the trade even though SJ and Pittsburgh were the two main traders. Habs traded off two spare wingers for a lot of assets, even though DeSmith and Petry were in the Pens doghouse. Weird seeing Petry coming back to Habs.

  20. This buys the pens another year or two but after that it will be a sharp steady decline with no draft capital and nothing in the pipeline. They’ll be a playoff contender for a couple of years, maybe win a series but that’s about it. Ironically, Karlson will finish his career with the eastern version of the sharks.
