Americans would think that’s what an igloo looks like

Also the location for what is arguably the greatest action movie involving game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals.

I hate corporate names. I liked the old names.

Lots of memories in that building besides watching the Pens! Monster trucks, classic Pitt big east basketball, indoor soccer and a ZZTop concert with my dad. Good times!

I always thought it was weird until I actually went to a game there. Great sight lines. And the acoustics were such that you could hear coaches and players talking on the bench even if you were behind a goal line. The sound would hit the roof and travel around and back down. Helps that the Devils won that day but it was a great day. Would have loved to have seen another there.

Igloo was sick. Miss all these old arenas.
Joe Louis, the Aud, Montreal Forum, Boston Garden…so good

But is it shaped like a big horse saddle?

Igloo, MSG, and Saddledome are coolest arenas.

Great memories getting off the T at steel plaza and walking up the hill to the igloo. Sad that my last game there was a 7-4 loss to the Flyers.

What happened to it? Has that land been redeveloped?

Loved playing there when I rolled into town on NHL ’99

The Igloo was great. PPG just doesn’t have the same atmosphere

The Sky-dome would like a word

When I was a kid I thought Mellon Arena was the coolest hockey arena ever.
In general, the older NHL arenas that have since been demolished have so much history and character which I enjoy. Nowadays, the arenas seem a bit bland.

I tried to get Brad Tolliver’s autograph once but he roundhouse kicked me in the face while doing the splits.

Pittsburgh native. Last event I saw there was SCF against Detroit. OT winner by Guerin, can’t remember which game it was though.

I was lucky enough to see a playoff game there the season before they tore it down.

Scope Arena (former home of the Norfolk Admirals) is really cool too and has a similar vibe.

I love it too, but what’s the black gizmo thing on top?

Thought this was the astrodome at first
No-Material-23
They should’ve opened it up for at least one game a year.

Scalped tickets during the 09 cup run as a kid in the last row of the arena. Could bang on the metal roof. Couldn’t see past your end’s blue line. Unreal lines to piss. Would go back to the Igloo in a heartbeat.
Putthebunnyback
I got to witness a Mario lemiuex goal in that building and will be forever grateful for that memory

I watched Detroit win the cup there in 2008, was a pretty cool experience.

There aren’t very many photos of it, but the Blues’ old home of [St. Louis Arena](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Louis_Arena) (the « Checkerdome ») was super amazing looking from the outside too. I’d love to see someone build a new arena with that kind of exterior. (Edit: Someone apparently [tried](https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/metro/fenton-hears-proposal-for-ballpark-village-style-hockey-venue/article_d680a7fc-d77c-5d56-95ed-5ba939ff0dd0.html).)
