One side: makes sense. He wants to see how this team performs this season before committing to anything.

Other side: omg we are doomed.

Look, both sides have reason but no point worrying about it.

He’s still an RFA at the end, no?

I’m usually pretty doom and gloom but I don’t think this is awful. From the sounds of it he likes the GM and the city so I’m not worried but it would’ve been nice to have this done going into the season.

That being said do you guys think he’ll lose leverage if he has a 80 point year?

  4. Poor guy is gonna be answering questions about his contract non-stop for the next while. Training camp is gonna be particularly annoying for him.

I encourage you guys to read the actual article. Petey has some quotes in there about his thoughts on working on his face offs this offseason, his thoughts on the free agent signings and what he thinks of the team this upcoming season. I was happy to read that Petey is happy with the direction the team took this summer. This is encouraging!

It makes sense for him and the team to wait. His last two seasons are 68 and 102 points respectively. That is a large gap and this season likely tells us who Elias Pettersson is and what kind of contract he should get.

🤷‍♂️ Who’s going to make the first « what could we get if… » post?

Meh, I’m not bothered by this. We’ll get a chance to see how he plays and if he deserves the contract of a perennial 100+ point guy (which he likely does).
