Hard question to answer. Is it better to lock him in for 8 years and hopes he outperforms his contract like Crosby or Ovechkin? If you give him a 4 year deal undervalued, he may jump ship. Hard choice. With salary cap predicting to rise considerably over the next few years, I would go for $105 over 8 or 48 to 50 for 4.
Pettersson just threw the stress back on management. They have no choice.
I expect 3×11.75. Not going to sign 8x, until he sees improvement.

I think a 4 yr deal is better for the organization! Not crazy about 12 mil at this point but if he repeats his points or increases them than that would be the right move.
Some believe they should lock him in for 8yrs! I think that would be a huge risk! Especially given the Canucks history with longterm high paid bad contracts!
It would be awesome to keep him her but money matters and if they pay him to much how can they afford to build a winning team when they can’t afford to surround him with solid players.
Toronto is a good example of having a few players taking up a lot of cap space and not be able to provide a solid team behind those players!
I like his attitude. He won't put up with being a loser team. He's willing to put it all on the line to win. He just needs a team that's held to the same standards.
imo, he should get 10 mil with a million bonus for taking the team to the cup final. mathews should have a 10 mil contract and bonuses for leading his team to the cup final. there has to be upper level limits.
He won't sign till next years cap is known after he puts up another 100+ points this seasons. He's already a top 10 center in the league, if he added selke votes and they make the playoffs…. $13M × 4 years.
9 M is fair, OEL buyout in the 3rd/4th year is 4.75M dont forget.
